GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) seeks a Statewide Roadside Communication and Network Specialist. This position is critical for developing and maintaining roadside communications for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and other essential monitoring equipment operated by WYDOT throughout the state. These responsibilities ensure the safety of the traveling public and support efficient operations for multiple programs by allowing for remote monitoring of equipment. The responsibilities require technical leadership skills and expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in radio and network operations. This position is essential for ensuring the safety of the traveling public, serving as a key component in traveler information and warning systems.This position offers:

Responsible for providing administrative support functions for a particular unit. Perform any function in the section and work alongside lower positions. Oversee the program standards for statewide training. Plan, supervise and perform the technical aspect for which this position is responsible. Oversee training of all staff in the specialty or specific department that this position is responsible for. Attend meetings and provide input for planning or strategic goals for the agency in specific focus areas.PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to applicants with experience with Wireless radio communication and network design. Preference may be given to those who are WYDOT Tower Climbing Certified.KNOWLEDGE
Ability to administer IP networks, including building IP plans for networks, managing security protocols, monitoring network status, and coordinating with other groups (such as ETS, ITS, and Traffic.. Knowledge of contracts and contract administration, including internal WYDOT projects and contracts with outside sources, such as broadband providers. Knowledge of network design, including broadband, radio, fiber and other communication methods. Knowledge of ITS, and traffic control devices. Ability to serve as an expert regarding communications to roadside devices. Ability to provide expert-level support to Emergency Communication and ITS technicians. Ability to provide recommendations on contract projects via the WYDOT design process and then see projects through construction, including providing expert inspection and subsequent reports. Serve as asset management lead for roadside communication networks. knowledge of all devices at the roadside, including those from other departments, to provide a complete end-to-end connectivity solution. Network design, troubleshooting, monitoring, and implementation are key components of managing network security. Assigning IP addresses for routers, radios, managed switches, UPS devices, and various monitoring equipment. Handles all licensing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for all WYDOT roadside radios operating in licensed frequencies.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Telecommunications)Experience:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of aSr Technical Operations Tech Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
