The Vertical Market Insights Specialist applies a structured, hypothesis-driven approach to discover, size, prioritize and validate market opportunities across product, customer segment, application and geography. Working on a cross-functional team, the specialist translates primary and secondary research into layered opportunity maps, experiment plans and repeatable go‑to‑market playbooks that drive sustainable organic growth.

The Vertical Market Insights Specialist applies a structured, hypothesis-driven approach to discover, size, prioritize and validate market opportunities across product, customer segment, application and geography. Working on a cross-functional team, the specialist translates primary and secondary research into layered opportunity maps, experiment plans and repeatable go‑to‑market playbooks that drive sustainable organic growth.
Key responsibilities:
Market decomposition & layered sizing: Break assigned verticals into meaningful sub‑markets by product, customer segment, application and geography using market segmentation techniques. Build layeredTAM/SAM/SOM
models with explicit assumptions, data sources and iterative triangulation from primary and secondary research. Maintain and update market maps and trackers as new data or insights help refine estimates. Hypothesis-driven customer discovery Generate testable hypotheses about customer jobs, unmet needs and high-value outcomes. Design and conduct qualitative research (in‑depth interviews, field studies, observational research) and synthesize into JTBD, decision journeys and outcome hierarchies. Scale validated hypotheses with quantitative surveys or transactional data analysis as appropriate. Opportunity scoring & prioritization Use a multi-dimensional scoring rubric (market attractiveness, fit, accessibility, defensibility, experimentability) to rank opportunities. Produce clear, evidence‑based recommendations for pilot selection and sequencing. Experiment design & measurement Create experiment charters that define hypothesis, design, success metrics, timeline and required resources. Run or support rapid pilots (commercial offers, channel tests, price experiments), track outcomes, and derive unit‑economics learnings. Convert successful pilots into repeatable playbooks for scale (offer, price, channel, sales motion, onboarding). Cross-functional collaboration & storytelling Work closely with Product, Supply Chain and Regional teams to translate insights into prioritized product, pricing and channel actions. Deliver executive‑ready artifacts: opportunity maps, heatmaps, TAM/SAM/SOM models, prioritized roadmaps, experiment reports and playbooks. Teach and steward Playbook templates and best practices within the team. Capability & portfolio alignment Identify capability gaps and investment needs to scale prioritized opportunities. Contribute to quarterly portfolio reviews and recommend sequencing across quick wins, capability builders and transformational bets.Required qualifications:
Natural curiosity and willingness to learn and apply new methods, approaches and frameworks Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Marketing or related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred. 4+ years experience in strategy consulting or industries with high level of marketing knowledge and skill (Pharma, Tech etc.) Excellent synthesis and storytelling skills; ability to produce executive‑ready decks and concise one‑pagers. Strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration experience. Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI, survey platforms and basic SQL preferred. Ability and willingness to travel for customer interviews and field research.Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated experience with market segmentation, TAM/SAM/SOM modelling and opportunity mapping. Strong qualitative research skills (in‑depth interviews, ethnography/field studies) and comfort with quantitative survey design and analysis. Familiarity with hypothesis‑driven discovery and experiment design; ability to translate pilot results into playbooks. Experience building repeatable go‑to‑market playbooks from experiments. Familiarity with pricing research methods (conjoint/discrete choice) and behavioral analytics. Prior exposure to The Organic Growth Playbook or similar frameworks (jobs‑to‑be‑done, portfolio prioritization, rapid experimentation).
