Funded through the Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) Encore Fellows Initiative About the Encore Fellows Initiative The Community Foundation of South Jersey (CFSJ) Encore Fellows Initiative connects experienced older adults with local nonprofits to lead high-impact, capacity-building projects. Funded through a grant focused on promoting public service among older adults, this initiative highlights the valuable skills, experience, and perspectives older adults bring to the community. Encore Fellows serve as independent contractors, funded with a $2,000 monthly stipend from the CFSJ, for the duration of the project. Project Overview Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity seeks an experienced Encore Fellow to lead a CRM Management Project focused on strengthening the organization's Salesforce customer relationship management (CRM) system. This project will improve donor data quality, enhance fundraising reporting capabilities, and establish sustainable CRM practices that support major donor cultivation and long-term fundraising success. As donor engagement has expanded across campaigns, events, grants, volunteer programs, and community initiatives, the organization seeks to improve the accuracy, consistency, and usability of its donor database while building staff capacity to manage Salesforce effectively. Position Summary The CRM Management Project Specialist will assess, clean, and optimize Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity's Salesforce CRM system while developing procedures, reporting tools, and staff training resources. The Fellow will work closely with organizational leadership and staff to improve donor data integrity, support fundraising strategy, and ensure long-term sustainability of CRM practices. This project is ideal for an experienced professional with expertise in CRM systems, database management, fundraising operations, data analysis, or nonprofit development. Key Responsibilities CRM Data Assessment & Cleanup Conduct a comprehensive review of Salesforce donor, household, foundation, and corporate records Identify and merge duplicate records and resolve incomplete or outdated donor profiles Standardize key data fields including contact information, giving history, engagement tracking, and donor classification Ensure historical donations and interactions are accurately recorded Major Donor Readiness & Reporting Establish donor indicators and criteria to support major donor identification and prospecting Improve donor segmentation and tagging for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities Develop and refine Salesforce reports and dashboards to support fundraising strategy and leadership decision-making CRM Best Practices & Procedures Research and implement Salesforce best practices related to donor management and fundraising operations Develop user-friendly procedures for data entry, record maintenance, and ongoing CRM management Create written guidance for generating and interpreting standard and custom reports Capacity Building & Knowledge Transfer Train staff on CRM procedures, reporting tools, and data management standards Provide support to ensure staff can independently maintain data integrity and generate reports Promote consistent, organization-wide use of Salesforce and documented best practices Project Goals & Outcomes By the conclusion of the project, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity will have: A cleaner and more reliable Salesforce database Improved donor record accuracy and consistency Stronger reporting tools to support major donor cultivation and fundraising strategy Written CRM procedures and standards for ongoing organizational use Enhanced staff knowledge and increased internal capacity to manage Salesforce effectively Sustainable systems that support donor stewardship and long-term fundraising success Qualifications Must be at least 55 years old Preferred qualifications include: Experience working with Salesforce or other CRM/database systems Background in nonprofit development, fundraising, donor relations, data management, or business operations Strong analytical and organizational skills Experience developing procedures, workflows, or training materials Ability to identify data quality issues and implement practical solutions Strong communication and relationship-building skills Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and leadership Experience training or mentoring others is a plus Ideal Candidate Profile This role is ideal for a 55+ year old professional (Encore Fellow) who: Brings relevant life and professional experience Has experience with CRM systems, database management, fundraising operations, or process improvement Enjoys solving organizational and data-related challenges Is passionate about community service and improving quality of life Seeks a meaningful, flexible engagement post-retirement or during a career transition Values relationship-building and direct community impact Takes satisfaction in building sustainable systems that strengthen nonprofit organizations Reporting Structure The Encore Fellow will report to the Senior Fellow of the Encore Fellows Initiative and collaborate with the Executive Director and staff of Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity. Impact This project will strengthen Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity's ability to cultivate and steward donors, improve fundraising effectiveness, and support long-term organizational sustainability. Through improved data integrity, reporting capabilities, and staff knowledge, the Fellow's work will help build a stronger foundation for advancing the organization's mission of providing safe, affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families throughout the community.
