Tourism Intern Salary $16.00 Hourly Location Convention Center, MD Job Type Temporary Job Job Number 202100433 Department Tourism Opening Date 06/02/2026 Description Benefits Questions Job Summary SUMMARY The Tourism Intern will support the daily operations of the Tourism Department through hands-on experience in destination marketing, visitor services, hospitality engagement, and administrative support. This position provides practical learning opportunities in CRM database management, tourism activations, website and system updates, customer service, and partnership development with local hotels and businesses. The intern will also gain exposure to tourism operations by shadowing employees across departments and assisting with special projects, events, and visitor engagement initiatives. Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. The intern can expect to work 10-20 hours per week. Interns must sign an MOU and complete all the requirements of the internship. HOURS and PAY $16/hour, (maximum of 160 hours June - August) paid in one lump sum (through Worcester County Government) Job Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES
Assist with maintaining and updating the department CRM database, including data entry, organization, and reporting Support tourism activations, events, and promotional initiatives through planning, setup, execution, and visitor engagement Engage with local hotels and hospitality partners to support current relationships and assist with new business outreach opportunities Assist with website content updates, event listings, and digital information management using content management systems Provide customer service at the Visitors Center by greeting visitors, answering questions, and providing tourism information and recommendations Assist with preparing marketing materials, partner communications, and tourism-related resources Shadow Tourism Department employees across multiple functional areas to gain exposure to tourism operations, marketing, sales, and community engagement Perform additional administrative and operational duties as needed to support the Tourism Department Other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIE S
None OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Rec-Trac. Driving record, drug test and background check required. Supplemental Information LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages. Ability to add; subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
