Valley Health Foundation is seeking a Marketing Director to join its leadership team at a pivotal moment in the organization's growth. This is a newly created role, which means the person who fills it has a genuine opportunity to shape how marketing is practiced at VHF from the ground up. The role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and carries a clear growth path toward a VP of Marketing or CMO title as the organization scales. You will inherit an energetic team of three, an established agency partner relationship, and the full support of leadership to build something meaningful. We are looking for a strategic thinker who also loves to execute, someone who embraces AI and modern marketing tools as genuine force multipliers, and who is energized by the idea of advancing health equity across Santa Clara County through smart, mission-aligned work. If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.THE POSITION
The Marketing Director is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that advances Valley Health Foundation's mission and fundraising goals. This role requires a balance of strategic leadership and hands-on execution, overseeing a team of three marketing professionals while personally driving high-impact initiatives, including brand development, donor communications, digital marketing, and campaign management. The Marketing Director will work closely with the COO, cross-functional teams, and an external agency partner to ensure cohesive messaging, a strong brand presence, and marketing efforts that meaningfully advance the Foundation's fundraising and community impact goals.WHAT YOU WILL DO
Develop and implement a comprehensive annual marketing and communications plan aligned with organizational priorities. Lead a team of three marketing professionals, including a Marketing Manager (video), a Digital Marketing Manager (events and social media), and a Communications Coordinator (impact and annual reports), providing mentorship and clear direction as the team grows. Partner with an external agency to drive a brand refresh, ensuring VHF's visual identity and messaging reflect its mission and ambitions. Build and execute advertising, donor engagement, and community outreach campaigns that resonate with both funders and the communities VHF serves. Oversee digital marketing across all channels, including social media, email, and the organization's website and SharePoint presence. Lead email marketing strategy, including segmentation, automation, and performance tracking. Produce and oversee compelling materials, including donor stewardship communications, event collateral, brochures, and digital assets. Supervise external vendors, contractors, and consultants. Track and analyze marketing performance and use insights to continuously improve strategy and execution. Leverage AI tools to enhance content creation, campaign efficiency, and marketing operations, modeling a culture of smart, technology-forward work. Ensure brand consistency across all marketing channels and materials.WHAT THE FIRST YEAR LOOKS LIKE
We want you to hit the ground running with a clear sense of what success means in this role. First 6 months: Work with the team to develop a new marketing plan and partner with our agency to begin new campaigns and a meaningful brand refresh. First 12 months: Lead VHF through a complete annual cycle and be positioned to elevate the organization's marketing and brand presence heading into the next fiscal year.WHAT YOU NEED
7+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or brand leadership; nonprofit or healthcare experience is preferred but not required for exceptional candidates. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute marketing strategy while also rolling up your sleeves to get things done. Genuine enthusiasm for AI and emerging marketing tools, with hands-on experience using them to increase output, improve quality, and drive efficiency. Proficiency in marketing software, including email automation tools, social media management platforms, Salesforce, and design tools such as Canva or Adobe Suite. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines across a lean, fast-moving team. Excellent copywriting, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling messaging for diverse audiences, including donors, community members, and healthcare stakeholders. Knowledge of data analytics and experience using insights to guide marketing decisions. Familiarity with Santa Clara County's community, policy environment, and health equity landscape; candidates who understand why this context matters and can ramp up quickly are encouraged to apply. Strong commitment to Valley Health Foundation's mission, values, and the communities we serve. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
