Job Description
Job Summary The Meat Market Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the meat department to ensure exceptional customer service, food safety, product quality, and profitability. This role leads department employees, maintains merchandising standards, manages inventory, minimizes shrink, and ensures all meat products are prepared and displayed according to company standards. Duties Supervise meat cutting, slicing, trimming, and packaging processes to ensure precision and quality. Operate meat processing machines safely and efficiently, adhering to food safety sanitizing procedures. Oversee the handling of perishable goods, ensuring proper storage, rotation, and freshness. Maintain visual inspection standards for quality control, identifying any defects or safety concerns. Train team members in knife skills, meat preparation techniques, and food safety protocols. Manage inventory levels of meats and related products, coordinating with suppliers as needed. Deliver excellent customer service by assisting shoppers with product selection and answering questions confidently. Establish department-wide policies and procedures. Requirements Proven experience in food production, food preparation, or retail store environments with a focus on meat or seafood handling. Skilled in meat processing machine operation and butchery techniques including meat cutting and slicing methods. Knowledge of food safety management practices, sanitizing procedures, and perishable goods handling. Strong understanding of culinary skills such as knife skills, trimming methods, and food industry standards. Ability to perform basic math for inventory counts and product measurements accurately. Previous experience in restaurant or kitchen settings with fish handling or culinary experience is preferred. Excellent customer service skills with a positive attitude and team leadership capabilities.
