Position Overview:
The expectation of the product manager is to focus on driving product success in a technical, hardware-centric, long-cycle environment. Unlike consumer software PMs, expectations here emphasize technical depth, cross-functional influence, profitability in physical products, customer intimacy in industrial applications, and balancing innovation with manufacturing realities. Expectations blend strategic vision, market expertise, and operational execution. Position success is measured by tangible business impact: revenue growth, margin improvement, customer retention in key industries (service trucks, telecom, utilities), and reliable product performance in demanding field conditions.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle for BOSS's mobile solutions portfolio (rotary screw for continuous demand, piston for intermittent use), multi-function units (e.g., compressor/generator combos), and accessories like OEM packages or tool lifts. Define product vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with company goals, market trends in mobile power/air solutions, and customer needs in target industries Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and voice-of-customer (VOC) gathering to identify opportunities for new products, features, or improvements (e.g., enhanced efficiency, integration with vehicle PTO systems, or eco-friendly options). Collaborate closely with engineering, sales, manufacturing, and service teams to prioritize features, set specifications, and ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and regulatory standards. Develop and maintain product pricing strategies, positioning, and go-to-market plans in partnership with sales and marketing. Manage product profitability, including cost analysis, margin tracking, and lifecycle management (from concept through end-of-life). Support sales enablement with product training, demos, literature, and technical guidance for distributors/dealers. Monitor post-launch performance, customer feedback, warranty data, and field issues to drive continuous improvement and iteration. Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer visits to gather insights and promote products.Qualifications / Competencies
/Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial), Business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree a plus. 5+ years of product management experience, ideally in industrial equipment, heavy machinery, automotive/vehicle-integrated systems, compressors, hydraulics, or similar B2B manufacturing sectors. Strong technical aptitude and understanding of air compressor technology, PTO-driven systems, or mobile power solutions preferred. Proven track record of successfully launching or managing products, with experience in cross-functional leadership. Excellent communication skills for working with internal teams, customers, and distributors. Analytical mindset with proficiency in market data, financial modeling, and tools like Excel, ERP systems, or product road mapping software. Willingness to travel (20-30%) for customer meetings, trade shows, or field testing. Authorized to work in the U.S.; located in/able to commute to LaPorte, IN area.
