The Product Manager works to identify, prioritize and create the tools, applications, services and software that help these participants and consumers work better. The Product Manager II (PM II) is responsible for product strategy, planning, and lifecycle management of ASTM products and services to technical information markets. Role will manage and build a variety of ASTM offerings designed for the consumers of
ASTM:
listening to constituents to grow needs into product ideas, gathering and prioritizing product requirements, defining the product vision using design thinking, assist other staff in developing their product visions, working closely with product delivery while preparing business cases, agile teams, business stakeholders, marketing, production, and service teams to ensure constituents can find value in the offerings and revenue goals are met. Development will include study and exploration of new products as well managing existing product backlogs and curating regular assessments of lifecycle. The PM has the potential to work on any and all existing ASTM revenue lines and may be assigned to new lines. PM II provides leadership and potential supervision role within their department and supports overall mission of ASTM International, organizational business plans, and division and department goals. Must enjoy working collaboratively across a variety of stakeholder teams to drive product strategy and build positive outcomes for ASTM customers. Complete other goals as assigned. Organization Role This Product Manager position reports to the Director of Product Management in the Sales and Marketing Division.
The position functions as an individual contributor. It has the potential for supervisory responsibilities and will provide work direction to fellow ASTM colleagues and external vendors for assigned activities. Responsibilities Be familiar with technical information publishing in engineering focused industries
Perform high-level market research and work with external research organizations as needed
Apply AI tools (e.g. Claude, ChatPRD) to drive greater efficiency and quality across product management functions, including research, prototyping, roadmap maintenance, customer interview analysis, and requirements writing
Evaluate and champion AI potential within assigned product lines
Prepare market and financial analysis including pricing recommendations
Execute voice of the customer, interviews and design thinking sessions
Deliver product documentation: business case/product plans, customer interviews and targeted synopsis, and specifications for agile development teams, including clear requirements
Prioritize features
Work with Digital Services and occasionally, external service suppliers to collaboratively see products through their development using SAFE agile
Define product strategy and roadmap; work closely with product teams to convey the product vision, continuously verify that the product fulfils that vision (as measured by customer value and business outcomes) and help the team ensure it is building and selling the right product.
Work with external publishers to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
Run prototypes, proofs of concept, and pilot programs with early-stage products
Maintain a full product life cycle process, and work to balance short-term achievements with long-term goals (such as minimizing technical debt while maximizing resiliency)
Understand the competition and like organizations' offerings
Attend assigned industry tradeshows, sales events, and ASTM committee weeks, in some cases functioning as the event lead in our trade show presence
Drive pricing strategies in collaboration with sales.
Assist with I&E forecasts and budget

Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Product Manager or equivalent role
Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
3+ years of experience in a job in publishing or software development (or laboratory or engineering regarding specification and standards management)

Bachelor's degree (Product Management, Communications, Engineering, IT/Software, Marketing, or related), (MBA preferred)
