This role centers on leading our team of content strategists while also operating as a senior content strategist. This position is designed for someone who is energized by diagnosing problems, designing solutions, and influencing clients and their team to take action. This role will be responsible for team process, procedure, templates, training, and QA review of teammates' deliverables while also driving organic growth for premier clients through audits, strategy, and consultation. You will be working on improving the client's business KPIs through several growth channels, including organic search (SEO), generative AI (GEO/AIO), and organic social media. While you won't be required to have technical SEO or website development expertise, a lot of the work will involve clients making changes to their website, so a passion for and an understanding of the fundamentals of search engines, generative AI, and websites work will be important. You will collaborate closely with our SEO/GEO, Design, Analytics, and Account Management teams and report to our SVP of Digital Services. Content Strategy Team Lead Key Responsibilities Team Operations and Leadership Own team process and workflow: build, document, and continuously improve the operating procedures, workflows, and standards the content strategy team runs on. Build the team's toolkit: develop and maintain playbooks, templates, and frameworks for audits, strategy decks, and other recurring deliverables so quality and speed scale across the team.
Lead training and onboarding:
run onboarding for new team members and ongoing training for the existing team, including on generative AI optimization (GEO) and responsible use of AI tools in strategy and content work. QA and review teammates' work: review other content strategists' audits, strategies, and deliverables before they reach clients, and provide direct, constructive feedback. Support reporting and account health tracking: provide team leadership with data, utilization, and account health reporting to support decision-making. This is a support and reporting function, not people management. Shape where the team is headed: contribute a point of view on how the content strategy discipline should evolve at the agency, particularly as search and generative AI platforms continue to shift and help translate that vision into team practice.
Serve as an internal resource:
act as an escalation point for teammates working through complex client or strategic challenges.
Partner with leadership:
support department leadership on capacity planning and resourcing as the team grows. Content Strategy and Premier Account Growth Own a portfolio of premier accounts: serve as lead content strategist, personally responsible for driving organic growth through content strategy. Lead comprehensive content and SEO/GEO audits: identify structural, topical, and competitive gaps limiting organic growth, including visibility within generative AI answer engines. Build and present prioritized growth roadmaps: develop strategies tied to business KPIs, incorporating SEO fundamentals and AI-search considerations. Own the strategic narrative with clients: present findings, defend recommendations, and secure client buy-in through clear, confident consultation.
Guide execution:
oversee on-site optimization, information architecture recommendations, and content production in partnership with design and other teams.
Monitor performance and adjust strategy:
interpret rankings, traffic, visibility, and AI-generated summary data, and translate it into the next set of strategic actions. Serve as the team's GEO and responsible AI subject-matter expert: maintain working, practical knowledge of generative AI platforms and how content surfaces in AI-generated responses, and model the ethical, responsible use of AI systems (including tools like Claude) in both client strategy and internal workflows. Content Strategy Team Lead Job Requirements Prior content strategy and/or agency experience required. Experience working across multiple client accounts and industries preferred. Demonstrated experience building and presenting SEO/GEO-driven content strategies, not just producing content. Working knowledge of generative AI platforms and their impact on search visibility, including how brands and content need to adapt to surface in AI-generated answers. Hands-on, responsible use of AI systems (e.g., Claude) as part of strategy and content workflows, with clear judgment about where AI supports the work and where it should not replace strategic thinking or original analysis. Demonstrated leadership or ownership experience, such as mentoring, coaching, or reviewing the work of other strategists or writers. Strong process orientation; comfortable owning documentation, templates, and workflow design, not only client-facing strategy. Ability to analyze website and content performance data (GA, GSC, SEO/GEO tools) and translate findings into prioritized action. Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills; writing samples will be requested. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to persuade, educate, and guide both clients and teammates. Understanding of website UX, content architecture, and the relationship between content, design, and conversion. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and internal initiatives simultaneously. Collaborative and self-motivated, able to work well under pressure and tight deadlines with minimal oversight. Position Details
