Job Summary We are currently seeking a Blast and Ballistics Structural Research Engineer . This position is a full-time opportunity located on-site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL. This role supports Battelle's National Security Business Unit in delivering Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts in Airfield Protection, Installation Resiliency, and Blast (APIRB) in support of the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Center. Near-term technical focus will center on protective structural effects for blast windows and doors. Active areas of research include but are not limited to: Protective Concepts and Systems Against Forced Entry; Blast and Ballistic Protection Systems Evaluation; Mitigation of Internal Blast Effects; Protective Systems for Infrastructure and Asset Survivability Against Cased Munitions; and Blast and Ballistic Protection for Guided Munitions. Responsibilities As a Blast and Ballistics Structural Research Engineer, the selected individual will conduct RDT&E efforts in support of U.S. Air Force programs focused on blast effects, ballistic protection, and protective structural systems.
Responsibilities may include:
- Apply engineering research and analysis expertise to develop an understanding of explosive blast effects and blast mitigation at full scale, reduced scale, and through modeling and testing
- Design and create engineering and assembly drawings in support of experimentation and protective system development
- Compile and evaluate design and test data, prepare technical specifications, and analyze technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process, or materials specifications
- Perform RDT&E of moderate complexity, identifying problems and developing and implementing effective solutions within schedule constraints
- Analyze and interpret collected data; prepare technical reports and deliver both formal and informal presentations to clients Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline with 5-8 years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field with 2-4 years of experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Proactive, self-starting work style with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Positive attitude and eagerness to take on technical challenges
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving ability and commitment to delivering quality results under schedule deadlines
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with or understanding of explosive blast effects and blast mitigation strategies
- Familiarity with high-speed cameras, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques such as digital image correlation (DIC) Compensation Data Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $75,000
- $95,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package.
