Job Description

Position Summary The Social Media and Content Specialist strengthens BJCTA and MAX Transit's digital presence by creating, capturing, editing, scheduling, and publishing timely, engaging content. This is a hands-on content production role that regularly photographs and films transit services, employees, riders, events, community partnerships, and agency initiatives. Working under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the specialist translates approved priorities and messaging into accurate, accessible, platform-appropriate content that builds awareness, trust, and engagement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day execution of BJCTA and MAX Transit social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, and other approved platforms. Create, schedule, publish, and maintain platform-specific posts in alignment with the approved content calendar, campaign plans, brand standards, and departmental priorities. Capture high-quality photographs, short-form videos, interviews, and behind-the-scenes content throughout the MAX Transit system and at agency or community events. Edit photographs and videos for Reels, Stories, short-form videos, social posts, website use, presentations, and other digital communications. Write clear, engaging, and accurate captions and supporting copy using BJCTA's approved voice, terminology, accessibility practices, and calls to action. Monitor social media channels and identify questions, comments, trends, potential service issues, and reputational concerns; escalate matters according to established protocols. Support timely service alerts, rider education, public-information campaigns, events, employee features, and community storytelling as directed. Maintain an organized, searchable library of photographs, raw footage, edited assets, captions, releases, and final content. Track channel and content performance, prepare routine reports, and recommend practical adjustments based on engagement, reach, audience response, and campaign goals. Coordinate with employees and departments to gather accurate information, schedule content capture, secure required approvals, and maintain brand consistency. Stay current on social media platform changes, digital storytelling practices, content trends, accessibility standards, and emerging tools relevant to the role. Provide limited support for website, email, presentation, and other marketing content when assigned. Attend and document activities outside standard office hours when required, including occasional early-morning, evening, or weekend events. Perform other related duties consistent with the purpose and level of the position. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, public relations, multimedia production, or a related field. Three years of professional experience managing social media and creating original digital content for an organization, agency, brand, or comparable client portfolio. A relevant combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required competencies may be considered in accordance with BJCTA policy.
