JOB DESCRIPTION MEDIA SPECIALIST FLSA

DESCRIPTION
An incumbent in this position is responsible for compiling information and data, organizing, planning, coordinating, publishing and assisting with activities as needed to promote the City of Pontiac and targeted events as needed. This position will place heavy emphasis on creating content and visual support for social media, government access channels, city website and other promotional products as needed. Has regular contact with personnel, administration partners, organizations and residents in capacity of fulfilling generating photos, video projects, printed materials, signage, etc. to further administration initiatives. Works with a variety of digital and electronic equipment to facilitate promotions including, but not limited to, computers, cameras (broadcast and still), projectors, printers, lighting, etc. Will be required to assist with livestreaming at City Hall and in the field as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Assist departments with marketing and promotion as needed, including acting as an ambassador to the property, collaborating with representatives of other organizations, interacting with media as needed and assisting in the planning and execution of events. Develop and implement social media posting strategy consistent with operational goals on coordination with Administration and Director. Write effective copy for press releases, website, social media and promotional literature. Responsible for developing, scheduling and monitoring activity on digital platforms, assessing feedback and responding in accordance with best practices as set forth by industry standards. Assist with creative on digital platforms including: scheduling photographic and video shoots, coordinating information/images with subject matter experts, graphics creation, editing, etc. Monitors and maintains social media assets, consistent brand utilization and promotions in support of administration initiatives. Assist with setting up equipment (at City and scheduled event locations) as required. Implement measurement tools to quantify and grow social media presence and other communications strategies in accordance with strategic plan. Ensures regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and reporting potential issues to management. Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental matters. Ability to adapt to changing situations, collaborate with personnel and solve problems. Experience with Photoshop (basic skill) and other digital desktop publishing software. Experience working MAC computer systems and digital camera equipment. Ability to speak, write and translate Spanish a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Arts with a focus on digital marketing, communications, journalism or some focus on print production. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, the equivalent to at least five years full-time professional experience (portfolio required) working for a public relations or marketing agency, news outlet, government office or non-profit. Strong oral and interpersonal skills, can communicate professionally, effective and concisely with ease. Sharp writing skills. Has some experience drafting formal media-facing and executive-ready documents. Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize your to-do list, be resourceful and complete responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Understand timelines and plan accordingly to meet deadlines. Ability to adapt to changing situations and problem solve. Experience with PR platforms including Cision and/or Trendkite. Experience with Photoshop (basic skills) marketing. Spanish preferred but not required.
