Position Introduction:
The Student Social Media Assistant is a Federal Work Study position that supports the organization's digital marketing and communication efforts by creating engaging content, maintaining social media accounts, and promoting campus events, programs, and initiatives. This position offers students hands-on experience in social media marketing, content creation, branding, and digital communications while working in a collaborative team environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Create engaging content for social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X. Capture photos and short videos at campus events, student activities, and special programs. Design graphics using Canva or similar design software. Draft captions that align with the organization's voice and branding guidelines. Schedule social media posts using approved scheduling software. Monitor social media accounts for comments, messages, and engagement, escalating questions when appropriate. Research current social media trends and recommend creative content ideas. Assist with planning and executing social media campaigns. Maintain an organized library of digital photos and video assets. Track basic analytics and prepare simple reports on post performance. Collaborate with staff to promote upcoming events and initiatives. Perform other marketing and communications duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status. Required Qualifications Currently enrolled as a student in good academic standing. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with major social media platforms. Basic photography and videography skills using a smartphone or camera. Experience with Canva, Adobe Express, or similar design software. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Department Preferences:
Previous experience managing personal, organizational, or business social media accounts. Knowledge of basic photo and video editing. Experience using scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Meta Business Suite. Coursework in marketing, communications, journalism, graphic design, or a related field. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Creativity and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality when appropriate. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
