Student Internship:
Hitting Cancer Below the Belt (HCB2) #DefeatTheRise Randolph-Macon College students encouraged to apply. Are you a creative communicator who loves social media, video storytelling, and bold, eye-catching design? Do you want to make a REAL difference? Join Hitting Cancer Below the Belt (HCB2) as a Communications and Engagement Intern and use your digital AND social skills to power a mission rooted in health, prevention, and saving lives. This internship is ideal for students who want hands-on experience in marketing, content creation, and campus engagement while championing a cause that truly matters. HCB2 is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to decreasing colorectal cancer incidence and mortality across Virginia. We deliver colon health education and expand access to timely screening for those most in need. In addition, we support survivors throughout their journey (delete). As a grassroots organization, we offer flexibility, creativity, and the chance to take meaningful ownership of your work. As an intern, you will lead our #DefeatTherRise campaign, bringing fresh, relevant, and captivating energy to colon health awareness on college campuses. Young adults are being diagnosed with colorectal cancer at increasing rates, and your voice can help shift that trend by making prevention approachable, relatable, and impossible to ignore. Responsibilities Marketing, Social Media & Creative Content Create engaging social media content (Reels, graphics, stories, etc.) Film and edit short form videos for awareness campaigns and events Design digital graphics, flyers, and visuals using Canva or similar tools Monitor engagement, track analytics, and compile insights for the marketing team Bring bold, creative ideas to strengthen the #DefeatTheRise campaign On Campus Outreach & Event Support Assist in planning and organizing at least one on campus event Introduce HCB2 to student groups, clubs, and campus organizations Support event setup, breakdown, registration, and attendee engagement Post Event & Program Support Collect feedback through surveys or interviews Compile reports summarizing event outcomes and engagement Qualifications Interest in marketing, engagement and outreach, along with video creation, or digital design Creative thinker with strong communication skills A genuine passion for public health, prevention, and helping communities thrive Knowledge of campus culture and student engagement strategies Strong organizational and time management skills Expectations Increase awareness of colon health and colorectal cancer prevention among students Help develop and implement two on campus events annually Support consistent, high-quality marketing and outreach efforts What We Offer 10 hours of paid work per week for up to 8 months, annually Remote friendly environment with flexible scheduling Opportunities for professional development and portfolio building A collaborative, supportive team culture How to
