  • What We're Looking For
  • HNTB is seeking a year-round Communications Intern to support strategic communications and public engagement efforts for Metro Nashville's Choose How You Move (CHYM) program.
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience creating content for a high-profile public transportation initiative while learning from communications, planning, and public engagement professionals. This role will support content development and digital storytelling efforts that help inform, educate, and engage Nashville residents about ongoing transportation investments. The ideal candidate is a creative and detail-oriented student with strong social media and content creation skills who is excited to develop professional experience in communications, marketing, and public engagement. The Communications Intern will support the development of engaging digital content that advances CHYM program goals and highlights project milestones. Responsibilities include creating social media content such as reels, carousels, graphics, short-form videos, stories, and captions; helping maintain content calendars; researching trends and identifying storytelling opportunities; and capturing and editing photo and video content from project sites, community events, public meetings, and other program activities. The position is designed to accommodate a student's course schedule and offers flexible hours, with a minimum requirement of 20 in-office hours per week. CHYM is Nashville's voter-approved plan to modernize transportation and give everyone safer, more reliable ways to get around. Implementation is underway, delivering practical investments in safety, reliability, and access that work for everyone, whether you walk, roll, ride, bike, or drive.
  • What You'll Do:

Content Creation:
Writes, edits and publishes social media posts, project award submittals, internal news, project and people profiles, email marketing materials, website content, thought leadership articles, conference and event materials. +
Analytics:
Compiles and provides analytics to corporate communications leadership on content performance. +
Event Management:
Assists with events, forums and meetings. +
Asset Management:
Helps maintain the day-to-day operations of the team's photo and video assets and contact databases. +
Research:
Conducts research about industry trends and best practices in communications. + Performs other duties as assigned.
  • What You'll Need:
  • + High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in a related undergraduate or graduate program
  • What You'll Bring:
  • + Ability to establish collaborative relationships across the firm.
+ Intellectual curiosity. + Good writing and communication skills. + Ability to multi-task. + Be a self-starter who possesses creativity and can-do attitude + Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 + Ability to work independently + Ability to prioritize work and multi-task + Deep understanding of social platforms + Experience with digital content creation
  • What We Prefer:
  • + Strong writing and communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms.
+ Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. + Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain quality and consistency across communications materials. + Ability to report to work a minimum of 20 hours per week + Experience creating content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or other social media platforms. + Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud products, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign, or equivalent design and video editing tools. + A portfolio showcasing graphic design, video production, social media content, photography, writing samples, or other creative work.
