We are seeking an experienced and passionate Master Carpenter Youth Learning Facilitator to guide learners through woodworking, design, fabrication, and applied construction experiences within our innovation-based educational environment. This role is ideal for a skilled carpenter, builder, maker, fabricator, or tradesperson who enjoys mentoring youth, fostering creativity, and helping students develop confidence through meaningful hands-on work. Position Overview The Master Carpenter Youth Learning Facilitator leads engaging, project-based learning experiences that introduce students to: Woodworking fundamentals Tool safety and workshop procedures Construction methods Measurement and precision Blueprint reading and design concepts Creative fabrication and prototyping Engineering and problem-solving Real-world craftsmanship and entrepreneurship The facilitator creates a workshop culture centered on curiosity, responsibility, innovation, teamwork, and craftsmanship excellence. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Facilitation Lead highly engaging hands-on woodworking and fabrication experiences for students in grades K-8. Facilitate student-led projects ranging from beginner builds to advanced design challenges. Teach safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment. Introduce students to construction concepts, structural thinking, and material selection. Encourage creativity, innovation, and independent problem-solving. Adapt instruction for multiple age groups and skill levels. Guide students through project planning, prototyping, building, revision, and presentation. Workshop & Lab Management Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment. Conduct regular safety checks and ensure all equipment is functioning properly. Monitor student safety procedures and workshop expectations consistently. Assist with inventory, material preparation, and organization of tools and supplies. Support the development of exciting fabrication and maker-space experiences. Student Development Foster confidence, perseverance, craftsmanship, and pride in work. Build strong relationships with students through encouragement and mentorship. Support collaboration, communication, and teamwork among learners. Create an environment where students feel safe to explore, create, fail forward, and innovate. Program Development Help develop innovative woodworking and fabrication projects aligned to student interests and real-world applications. Collaborate with the instructional team to integrate engineering, entrepreneurship, design thinking, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Contribute ideas for expanding the woodworking and innovation program. Qualifications Required Extensive experience in carpentry, woodworking, fabrication, construction, cabinetry, or a related skilled trade. Strong understanding of workshop safety and proper tool usage. Ability to confidently mentor and work with children and adolescents. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Dependable, patient, creative, and solution-oriented. Ability to create an engaging and structured learning environment. Passion for hands-on learning and youth development. Preferred Teaching, coaching, mentoring, camp, or youth program experience. Experience with CNC machines, laser cutters, 3D design, or maker-space tools. Knowledge of design thinking, engineering, architecture, or fabrication processes. OSHA or workshop safety certifications. Experience in project-based or inquiry-based learning environments.
