Position Summary The Master Electrician is responsible for overseeing, planning, and executing all electrical work associated with underground utility construction projects. This role ensures compliance with all applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures while supporting field operations, project teams, and subcontractors. The Master Electrician serves as the subject matter expert for electrical systems related to underground infrastructure, including power distribution, conduit systems, and utility installations. Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership and oversight for all electrical installations on underground construction projects Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable state/local regulations Design, review, and approve electrical plans, schematics, and specifications for underground systems Supervise and mentor electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors Coordinate with project managers, field supervisors, and clients to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met Oversee installation of conduit systems, transformers, switchgear, and underground power distribution systems Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and testing of electrical systems Ensure all electrical work meets safety standards and company policies Support permitting and inspection processes with local authorities Maintain accurate documentation, including as-builts, reports, and compliance records Assist in estimating, bidding, and material procurement for electrical scopes of work Qualifications Valid Master Electrician license (state-specific as required) 7+ years of electrical experience, with significant focus on underground utility or construction environments Strong knowledge of underground electrical systems, conduit installation, and power distribution Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and utility plans Experience working in utility construction, fiber, or pipeline environments preferred Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and best practices Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project management software Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods Willingness to work in trenches, confined spaces, and active construction sites Travel Requirements Ability to travel as needed (up to 50-75% depending on project demands) Preferred Qualifications Experience with fiber optic infrastructure and underground telecom systems Prior experience in HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) or trenching operations Familiarity with utility locating and damage prevention practices Why Join Us Competitive compensation and benefits package Opportunities for advancement within a growing organization Work on high-impact infrastructure projects Safety-first, team-oriented culture
