Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials throughout the facility to support smooth and continuous production operations. This role includes loading and unloading trucks, operating material handling equipment such as walkie riders, pallet jacks, forklifts, and reach trucks, delivering materials to the production floor, and accurately handling documentation for material receipts and deliveries. The Material Handler plays a key role in maintaining production efficiency, organizing the workspace, and upholding quality and safety standards while demonstrating strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills. Responsibilities Safely load and unload delivery trucks using forklifts, walkie riders, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Deliver raw materials and components to the production floor in a timely and accurate manner based on order sheets and production needs. Analyze and estimate daily workload by reviewing order sheets and material requirements. Perform daily, operational, routine, and periodic checks on delivered raw materials to verify quality, quantity, and accuracy. Record and inspect equipment condition, including cleaning, checking, and adding fluids as needed to maintain proper operation. Perform quality checks using microscopes, micrometers, measuring devices, digital voltmeters (optional), calipers, rulers, and other related tools. Use mobile equipment in daily operations, including forklifts, walkies, pallet jacks, and reach trucks, following all safety guidelines. Handle shipping and receiving tasks, including order picking, packing, loading, unloading, and staging materials for shipment. Utilize RF scanners to pick, track, and verify inventory and material movements within the facility. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation for material receipts, deliveries, and inventory transactions. Follow work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including all safety and quality compliance requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 6S standards. Understand department workflows and processes to ensure efficient material flow and accurate inventory handling. Communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers and cross-functional teams, both verbally and in writing. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve material flow or quality issues in a timely manner. Support proper implementation of processes and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. Operate and maintain tools and equipment within the functional area, reporting any issues or maintenance needs promptly. Adhere to all company rules, policies, and safety regulations. Train other team members at the same or lower level within the functional area on material handling procedures and equipment use. Work all scheduled shift hours and support production needs as required. Essential Skills Proven experience in material handling within a production, warehouse, or distribution environment. Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving, including loading and unloading trucks. Proficiency operating forklifts, including sit-down forklifts, reach trucks, and other powered industrial trucks. Ability to safely operate pallet jacks, walkie riders, and other mobile material handling equipment. Experience with order picking, packing, and general warehouse or production labor. Ability to use RF scanners for picking, inventory tracking, and material verification. Strong attention to detail when handling documentation for material receipts, deliveries, and inventory records. Ability to perform quality checks using microscopes, micrometers, calipers, rulers, measuring devices, and digital voltmeters (optional). Understanding of and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines. Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area following 6S or similar lean standards. Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with co-workers and cross-functional teams. Capability to understand department workflows, processes, and material requirements. Ability to work all scheduled shift hours reliably and consistently. Capability to troubleshoot basic material flow or equipment-related issues. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting production environments by delivering materials directly to production lines or workstations. Background in inventory control, including counting, tracking, and organizing materials. Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes, including documentation and labeling. Ability to train others at the same or lower level within the functional area on equipment operation and procedures. Comfort working with cross-functional teams to improve processes and resolve issues. Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks based on order sheets and production schedules. The position involves standing, walking, lifting, and moving materials throughout the shift, as well as working in areas where products are received, stored, and delivered to production. You will use tools such as microscopes, micrometers, calipers, rulers, measuring devices, digital voltmeters (optional), and RF scanners to perform quality checks and track inventory. The environment follows established safety protocols, SOPs, and 6S standards to maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace. You are expected to work all scheduled shift hours and follow the facility's guidelines for appropriate work attire suitable for a production and warehouse setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of De Soto, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.70 - $20.70/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
