As the North American headquarters for G-TEKT Corporation, Jefferson Industries actively participates in the Global Automotive Industry. As part of our involvement, Jefferson Industries Corporation offers design and development for press dies and other tools necessary to produce automotive products. We embrace programs for product development including product design review and Advanced Product Quality Planning. Our facilities support high quality product manufacturing, and we provide a timely and flexible approach to meeting the needs of our customers. We are actively seeking a Coordinator to join our Material Services department on 2nd Shift (core schedule, Monday through Thursday 4:00 pm to 12:30 am; and Fridays 3:30 pm to 12:00 am)
Job Title:
Material Services / Shipping Coordinator (Supervisor) Position Summary The Material Services / Shipping Coordinator is responsible for leading daily shipping, receiving, and material flow operations within an automotive manufacturing environment. This role ensures uninterrupted production support through accurate, timely delivery of materials and finished goods, while maintaining strict adherence to safety, quality, and just-in-time (JIT) delivery requirements. The Coordinator directly supervises department associates and drives performance through effective leadership, process discipline, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Supervision & Leadership Directly supervise Material Services and Shipping associates, including scheduling, work assignment, and performance management Provide coaching, training, and development to build a high-performing, accountable team Lead daily start-up meetings to communicate priorities, staffing, and safety expectations Address employee relations matters in alignment with company policies and procedures Material Flow & Production Support Ensure timely delivery of raw materials and components to production lines to support JIT manufacturing Coordinate line-side replenishment, kanban systems, and internal material movement Partner with Production to respond quickly to changing schedules, downtime, or material shortages Support line changeovers and ensure correct materials are staged and available Shipping & Receiving Operations Oversee inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and on-time delivery to customers Coordinate with carriers and logistics providers to meet delivery schedules and resolve issues Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, labeling standards, and ASN (Advance Shipping Notice) processes Monitor dock operations to optimize loading/unloading efficiency and minimize delays Inventory Control & Systems Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and proper transaction discipline in ERP/WMS systems Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, and overages Ensure proper material identification, traceability, and FIFO (First-In, First-Out) practices Continuous Improvement Identify and implement process improvements aligned with lean manufacturing principles Support initiatives such as 5S, waste reduction, and standard work development Track, analyze, and report key operational metrics to drive performance improvements Safety & Compliance Enforce all safety policies, OSHA requirements, and plant procedures Conduct routine safety audits, address hazards, and promote a strong safety culture Ensure compliance with quality standards, including material handling and shipping requirements Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Production line stoppages due to material shortages On-time shipping and delivery performance Inventory accuracy preformed by material handlers Safety performance (incident rates, near misses) Labor efficiency and productivity Qualifications, Skills & Requirements Leadership & Interpersonal Skills Strong leadership abilities with the capability to motivate, coach, and develop team members Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with associates, management, customers, suppliers, and cross-functional departments Ability to provide clear direction while maintaining accountability and professionalism Strong conflict resolution and employee relations skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment Problem-Solving & Decision-Making Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Ability to quickly assess operational issues and make sound decisions to prevent disruptions in safety, quality, delivery, or production Ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement corrective actions Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Time Management & Organizational Skills Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a high-volume operation Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, staffing, and operational priorities effectively Self-starter with strong initiative and continuous improvement mindset Ability to maintain urgency and deliver results with minimal supervision Computer & Technical Skills Proficient in basic computer applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word Experience with ERP, WMS, inventory control, and shipping systems preferred Ability to prepare reports, memos, emails, and operational documentation Knowledge of barcode scanning systems and inventory transaction processes preferred Manufacturing & Operational Knowledge Knowledge of automotive manufacturing, JIT delivery systems, material flow, and inventory control processes preferred Understanding of lean manufacturing principles, FIFO practices, and continuous improvement methodologies Experience coordinating shipping, receiving, dock operations, and logistics activities Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safe material handling practices Education & Experience Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, warehouse operations, or material services within a manufacturing environment Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred Automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred Mathematical & Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions, correspondence, reports, and operational procedures Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group settings Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret basic operational data and graphs Ability to perform basic mathematical functions including
