Full-time, on-site position. Core office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Position Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead and elevate our mechanical engineering team. This role blends deep technical expertise in custom machine design with people leadership, with a primary focus on strengthening design excellence, solving application challenges, advancing Design for Manufacturing (DFM), expanding engineering analysis capabilities, and increasing financial awareness across the team. This leader operates with a servant leadership mindset by removing obstacles, developing people, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality, practical, cost-effective, and on-time solutions without unnecessary process constraints.
Essential Functions:
Servant Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers with varying levels of experience Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement Build team capability in first-principals, risk identification, critical thinking, and proactive problem solving Remove barriers that slow down engineering productivity or create unnecessary friction Promote a "scrappy but disciplined" approach focused on value, not bureaucracy Promote professional growth by identifying skill gaps and creating targeted development plans Recruit and onboard strong engineering talent Facilitate individual one-on-one and team meetings Model, steward, make decisions upon, and expect to be held accountable to Delta ModTech's values which include:

Technical Leadership Lead the development of robust and scalable mechanical design practices for custom converting, packaging, and coating machinery and automation Champion DFM principles across all projects to reduce cost, lead time, and complexity Expand team capability in engineering analysis while ensuring it is not over-applied Identify technical and execution risks early in the design phase and drive proactive mitigation plans Drive consistency in design standards while maintaining flexibility for unique or outlier projects Provide hands-on technical guidance and design reviews for complex or high-risk systems Implement lessons learned and feedback loops from design, machine assembly, debug, and field performance Project Execution and Schedule Leadership Own and drive mechanical engineering schedule performance across all projects Plan and maintain up-to-date resource planning for the mechanical engineering team, ensuring projects remain properly staffed while adapting to project changes and business needs Ensure design deliverables are defined, sequenced, and completed in alignment with overall project timelines Partner with operations leadership and project management to develop realistic schedules, resource plans, and milestones Establish clear accountability within the team for meeting commitments and deadlines Introduce and instill strong financial ownership within the mechanical engineering team Collaborate with project management and leadership on scope, budgets, and risk management Ensure engineering decisions align with overall business objectives Operations Team Participation and Leadership Participate and contribute within the Operations and Engineering leadership team, enabling tactical decisions and strategic planning while solving problems Develop and maintain strong relations across engineering, production, sales, business, manufacturing, and people & culture departments Represent and advocate for mechanical engineering team throughout the company

Education and Experience:
Required Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in custom machinery, automation, or capital equipment 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role Strong background in: Machine design DFM and manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, assembly) Engineering analysis (FEA and/or hand calculations) Demonstrated ability to deliver complex engineering projects that meet schedule and budget Proven track record of identifying and mitigating technical and project risks early Preferred Familiarity with cost estimation and project financials Experience implementing or improving engineering standards and workflows Strong CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) Position Type, Work Environment & Travel Full time, exempt Normal office environment Travel less than 10%
