The job of Media Assistant is done for the purpose of assisting with maintenance of the library collection at school site; assisting with implementation of age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; aid in selecting appropriate materials for support of classroom instruction and educating students on the proper use of the library resources.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Essential duties of this position include the following. Provides classroom support for the purpose of promoting and reinforcing basic library skills to students. Distributes various books and media for the purpose of providing requested classroom reference materials. Assists students for the purpose of educating them on the proper use of the library resources (i.e. classification systems, care of materials, automated library system, etc.). Research availability of materials and media for the purpose of selecting appropriate items. Maintains patron database and circulation records for the purpose of automated library system resources and inter-library loans (Alexandria or Gorge Link). Inventories equipment and materials in library collection for the purpose of documenting losses and/or maintaining availability of materials. Processes orders (e.g. books, periodicals, films, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining library collection controls Assists students, teachers and other personnel for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Participates in district meetings of media assistants for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues. Conducts classes in a variety of formats (e.g. storytelling, puppet plays, etc.) for the purpose of promoting the use and enjoyment of literature. Promotes library use related to special holidays, seasonal activities, etc. for the purpose of motivating students to use the library resources. Knowledge of and ability to use the Dewey Decimal System. Catalog books and new equipment. Repair, cover and bind damaged books. Assist students with reference work, selection of books, online reference searches, and computer use in the media center. Supervise large groups of students during library visits and proactively manage their behavior. Process check-ins and check-outs of books, periodicals, and reference materials to staff and students before, during and after school. Process new textbooks. Coordinate set-up of special events and book fairs in the library and be in charge of the event, including sales. Maintain current records, track overdue and lost books. Ability to conduct classes under the direction of the supervisor with robotics, coding and digital citizenship (Elementary Media Assistants).GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district. Confer regularly with immediate supervisor and district librarian. Follow all district policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority. Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleagues or district patrons. Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position. Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. This position does not supervise other employees.QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Associate degree (equivalent to 72 quarter-credits from a regionally accredited college or university). In lieu of the degree or credit requirement, can provide a passing score on the CBEST or the PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment exam. Prior successful experience working in a school setting or library setting.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of standard office equipment and library control systems. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others without interrupting, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish, verbally and in writing. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, or members of the community. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before students, staff and parents. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Skills to operate standard office equipment including use of computer applications, use English in both written and verbal form, use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, maintain detailed and accurate records. General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, accounting software, internet software, e-mail, spreadsheets and word processing software. Ability to provide basic computer, A/V equipment and hardware troubleshooting. Ability to type accurately and proficiently. Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with frequent interruptions.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Prior job related experience working with elementary age students; prefer library related experience or related technology experience.TESTING REQURIED

HOURLY PAY RANGE
