JOB SUMMARY
The job of Preschool Instructional Assistant is done under the direct or indirect supervision of a licensed staff member and/or school administrator and the Preschool Lead Instructor, to support student learning and growth for 3 to 5 year olds enrolled in the Mid Valley Preschool Promise program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045). Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. Assist the Lead Preschool Instructor in the social and educational development of preschool students. Implement district adopted curriculum and intervention programs with licensed staff guidance. This includes preparing materials, teaching and monitoring student progress, and small group instruction Collect data as prescribed by the lead staff and administration Understand and maintain district guidelines regarding safety and confidentiality Provide students a safe and secure environment at all times. This may include playground supervision, preparing and eating meals with the students, rest-time/nap supervision, small group management Administer minor first aid Provide Clerical support and simple maintenance and operation of school equipment and supplies Prepare instructional materials related to area of assignment Provide personal care and assistance to students for the purpose of helping them access their education which may include: toileting, personal hygiene, feeding, positioning, mobility, and delegated nursing and/or therapy services Encourage acceptable student behavior and assist in maintaining classroom discipline. Guide and reinforce student understanding of rules and procedures Participate in professional development activities related to assignment Maintain a confidential, non-preferential, non-judgmental manner towards the students, staff, and department/school Assist students by answering questions, provide proper examples, and offer general guidance Maintain student records and files as directed Compile student information and materials and prepare reports as requested Assist licensed staff with phone calls of a general nature to parents Employ good judgment in a variety of situations, including emergencies Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, and general public Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and complete work within established timelines Confer, as needed, with licensed staff concerning programs and materials to meet student needs

Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district. Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate manner for the assignment and work setting. Have regular and punctual attendanceConfer regularly with immediate supervisor or program lead Follow all district policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by proper authority Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. May provide guidance and assistance to regular, temporary, or substitute employees as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Associate's degree (72 quarter hours of accredited college, university) or passing score on CBEST or Paraprofessional Assessment Prior job experience working with preschool age children (3-5 year olds). Ability to qualify for and maintain a Valid Oregon Central Background Registry. Ability to obtain and maintain an Oregon Food Handler's Card. Ability to obtain and maintain Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification. Basic technology skills Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and Spanish required. Ability to do basic mathematical calculations Student management skills
  • Implement district, department, and/or building approved behavior interventions and management Proctor district and/or school assessments Assist in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students Assist with supervision of students Assist with communicating student expectations Operate standard office equipment Perform basic clerical functions
Required Testing:

HOURLY PAY RANGE
The hourly pay range for this position is listed below. Employees who pass the District's English/Spanish bilingual test will receive a 5% per hour pay increase.
