Job Description
POSITION
Medical Assistant 3 days per week Mauston/2 days per week AdamsPRIMARY SUPERVISOR
Clinical Operations SpecialistPURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The medical assistant is responsible for facilitating the flow of clients through the clinic. The medical Assistant helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance, working to ensure high quality care is delivered in a customer service driven environment. The medical Assistant provides services as directed by the Nurse Practitioner and/or other licensed clinic staff. The medical assistant will provide reproductive health care according to policy and protocol outlined in the HFNI Policy.ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative- Registers clients, which includes; updating demographic information, verifying payment source, assisting with FPOS enrollment for eligible clients.
- Schedules appointments.
- Provides information to clients regarding services available at Healthfirst, cost of services and payment expectations.
- Collect and deposit fees, prepare and submit related documents to finance department.
- Assists with orientation of new staff.
- Assists with referrals to outside agencies including but not limited to Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Prenatal Care Coordination Program (PNCC), and other health care providers.
- Maintains security and confidentiality of clients and their records. Clinical
- Verifies client information by interviewing client, confirms purpose of visit.
- Prepares client for examination by taking height, weight, and blood pressure.
- Maintains supply readiness by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Responsible for exam room set up, stocking rooms with supplies, cleaning rooms between clients and at the end of the day.
- Responsible for assisting the nurse practitioner with lab forms as needed.
- Cleans speculums at the end of the day.
- Completes lab controls when needed, including pregnancy test controls
- Completes the lab log and verifies that all specimens being sent out for testing are entered.
- Packages and ships specimens appropriately.
- Administers IM contraception.
- Performs lab procedures, to include but not limited to venipuncture, pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted infection urine screening.
- Keeps clinic and office equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Dispense contraception as ordered and delegated by the NP.
- Maintains medical records on electronic medical records.
- Ensures quality control monitoring is completed per protocol.
- Assists with special project activities when necessary.
- Attends orientation, training and staff development functions.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be committed to quality healthcare, excellent customer service and the mission of Healthfirst
- Ability to relate to diverse communities and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences among staff and clients.
- Articulate; good verbal and written skills.
- Exhibits good organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Knowledge of computer software and electronic medical records.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
EXPERIENCE
- GED or diploma required.
- MA preferred.
- 3 years of clinical experience required.
- Current CPR certification required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training which will include safety precautions and the use of personal protection equipment.
- Must have own reliable transportation. This position requires travel, therefore a valid driver's license and auto insurance in accordance with agency liability standards is required
- High degree of accountability for agency services and for well-being of clients.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work requires accuracy and moderate speed
- Sitting for long periods of time, occasional lifting, carrying, and moving items to other sites or within sites. Driving or riding in vehicle for up to two hours or more. Variety of physical exertion with some and /or continuous standing or walking.
- Must possess manual dexterity needed for clinical procedures, computer use, etc.
