Job Description

Marin Cancer Care Medical Assistant Job Description The Medical Assistant is responsible for clinical and administrative tasks that assure efficient patient communication and workflow in support of the treating physicians. The Medical Assistant position includes rooming patients, including vitals and health history, as needed and other functional duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Office Manager Job Responsibilities Ø Respond quickly and professionally to inquiries from patients, families, and colleagues. Ø Assist with messages between treating physicians, patients, and/or referring physicians. Ø Process requests for prescription refills. Ø Review upcoming schedules for required documents, pre-visit orders, and note preparation. Ø Prepare patients for examinations and treatment. Ø Perform subcutaneous injections, venipuncture, and blood tests. Ø Perform patient care, including vitals, height/weight, review of medications, and rooming. Ø Maintain and stock exam rooms in an orderly and neat appearance. Maintain cleanliness. Ø Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients regarding the patient process, obtaining required documents, and communicating follow-up requirements. Ø Participate in scheduling, and communicating, outside procedures, referrals, and services. Ø Collect and send specimens to labs for testing as ordered. Ø Verify and updates necessary information in patient medical records. Ø Communicate with hospitals, labs, and radiology to obtain patient results. Ø Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Ø Performs various other job duties when needed throughout the office. Ø Identify, analyze, and resolve any work-related problems. Ø Perform other duties as needed or assigned. Required Qualifications Ø High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Ø Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma from an approved school /institution or equivalent documented training. Ø BLS - Basic Life Support. Ø Understanding of common diagnostic testing modalities and medical specialties. Ø Knowledge and understanding to review patient diagnosis, treatment plans, and records. Ø Very strong proficiency using Microsoft Office products. Ø Ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solving. Ø Demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and demonstrating a team-oriented attitude. Ø Superior oral and written communication skills. Ø Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ø Ability to use various computer/EMR systems and applications. Preferred Qualifications Ø CMA - Certified or Registered Medical Assistant. Ø Strong understanding of Oncology practice sub-specialties. Ø Familiarity with Mosaic and/or Epic EMR systems. Ø Multi-lingual capabilities. Typical Physical Demands Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighting up to 40 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.' '
