Job Description
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of clinical procedures and practices. Knowledge and maintaining scope of practice while working under a Medical Doctor versus working under a Nurse practitioner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, other employees and the public. Knowledge to communicate effectively with patients, providers, co-workers, and the general public. Effective organization and time management skills. Proficient in following and giving oral and written instructions. Must be able to use time and resources effectively. Knowledge of Infection Control process. Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and keeping patient and staff information confidential. Knowledge of the operation and care of standard laboratory equipment (Dual roles, School base clinics). Knowledge of basic lab procedures and practices (Dual roles, School base clinics). Ability to prepare laboratory findings report. (Dual roles, School base clinics). Knowledge of State Vaccine for Children/ CHIP immunization program. Knowledge of vaccine storage and handling processes/ protocols. Knowledge of reports in MIIX and EHR. Willingness to adjust to the change of work location based on organizational needs on short notice. Must demonstrate emotional stability, ability to cope with stress and non-judgmental towards patient diversity. You must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during the workday. Refer to the Physical Demand Analysis. Qualifications/Education Requirements To qualify for this position the employee will be a graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant training program. This position requires current certification by a nationally recognized certifying body. Nationally recognized certifying bodies include the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists Agency (AMT), National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP), and National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), and the National Health Career Association (NHCA). The employee must have and maintain a valid BLS certification. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation is necessary. The employee must provide proof of minimal liability coverage as required by the state and will be required to provide updates when renewed. Experience in a primary care medical office practice, community health, or public health is preferred but not required. The employee must be able to demonstrate a caring attitude and helpful approach toward all patients. The employee must be self-directed, motivated, and work independently as well as within a team. Experience in a primary care medical office practice, community health or public health setting is preferred but not required. Reliable transportation is necessary. Provides essential job functions to maintain safe and effective day-to-day services. Participates as a team member to help achieve nursing goals, clinical measures and customer satisfaction. Complete and submit in a timely manner all weekly/monthly reports. Maintains necessary files, records, and logs. Keeps examination rooms and work areas clean with adequate non-expired supplies. Maintains Infection Control Process. Gathers patient data in accordance and maintain patient/staff PHI according to workflow/policy. Obtains completed consent and other forms requiring patient or parent signature. Document in EHR completely, accurately and timely according to workflow while updating information in other platforms as required (i.e., MIIX, payer portal, Azara, Aledade). Process requests for information and services through telephone communication and documents in EHR Telephone template Process and/ or track referral and diagnostics orders in a timely manner consistent with workflow. Provides assistance to clinicians during examinations and treatment procedures as required within scope of practice. Process all provider orders in a timely manner according to current policy. Performs vision and hearing tests, EKGs, injections, immunizations, CLIA wave testing, and other nursing procedures within scope of practice. Maintain and order lab supplies and inventory. (Dual roles, School base clinics) Sets up and calibrates laboratory equipment (Dual roles, School base clinics.) Obtain laboratory specimens (identifying/labeling) and perform routine lab tests. (Dual roles, School base clinics) Prepare and document laboratory test findings in patients EHR. (Dual roles, School base clinics). Report accurate lab findings to appropriate providers in a timely manner. (Dual roles, School base clinics). Meets all requirements, rules, and regulations of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.) (Dual, School base clinics). Works with the Mississippi State Department of Health and Director of Nursing to ensure proper VFC compliance and approval for all applicable clinics/ SHS sites (Pediatrics & VFC Certified clinics). Conducts and submits VFC and private vaccine inventories per CFHC Vaccine Management Program to Director of Nursing. Orders VFC and Private vaccines. Entering Vaccine storage unit temperature readings on log sheets according to policy. Ensure monthly docking and uploading to shared drive of Data Loggers (School base clinics). Assists with pediatric audits and recall efforts for well-child visits and vaccine adherence schedules (Pediatrics). Acts as an advocate for the patient and family. Professionally interacts with patients, providers, coworkers, and the public. Actively and effectively communicates status, progress, and needs to Practice Manager and Director of Nursing. Actively assesses the security of patients, staff, and facility while reporting concerns to the Practice Manager and Director of Nursing. Supports performance improvement activities and policies. Subject to frequent interruptions. May be required to work beyond normal hours, in other specialties, or different locations as needed. Performs other duties as required.
