MEDICAL ASSISTANT-PHYSICIAN PRACTICES

Role:
Assists providers with efficient patient flow while maintaining high standards of care, perform a variety of general patient care responsibilities to include, but not limited to: measuring/recording vital signs, collecting specimens and administering injections. Administrative tasks include answering phones, maintaining physician schedules, ordering supples, and performing other administrative duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides assistance and preparation prior to and during examination by health care providers. Prepares examination/treatment rooms for examinations of patients by properly positioning instruments, equipment and supplies. Interviews patients to obtain reasons for visit, such as nature of complaint, physical problems, symptoms of illness, etc. Prepares patients for examination by performing various routine physical assessments such as vital signs, height, weight, blood pressure, etc. Prepares and assists health care provider during examination and procedures. Maintains logs for refrigerator temperature (medications and specimens), weekly exam room cleaning and quality control point of care testing on equipment as needed. Maintains timely monitoring and documentation (tracking) of physician ordered laboratory tests, radiology, ultrasound, etc. if requested. Performs point of care testing according to practice protocols and follows OSHA guidelines in obtaining and handling specimens. Administers medication by oral, intramuscular or subcutaneous routes under provider's order. Performs diagnostic testing to include but not limited to EKG, phlebotomy and laboratory testing. As a designated agent of the provider, relays prescription information to pharmacies as directed by the provider. Administers medications limited to those designated, only as designated by the provider. Performs general clerical duties necessary to support provider's office practice. Updates and maintains patient chart, confidential files and other departmental records electronic and paper. Prepares inventory of supplies to determine items to be replenished. Reviews current supplies for expiration dates. Stocks all medical supplies. May assist in registration and updating information on patient's record. Performs clerical duties including but not limited to: provider scheduling, answering and directing telephone calls to appropriate parties, maintaining medical records in patient charts, composing general correspondence.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
HS Diploma/GED preferred, Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program
Experience:
Prior medical assistant experience
Licensure/Certifications:
