Medical Assistant/Detention Officer

Job Title:

Medical Assistant / Detention Officer (Full-Time) 8:00am-8:00pm Monday-Friday $20.50/hr.

Benton County Detention Center, Warsaw, Missouri Position Summary:

The Benton County Detention Center is seeking a dedicated and adaptable individual to serve in a dual-role position as a Medical Assistant and Detention Officer. This position supports the facility's medical operations while also assisting with security and inmate supervision duties. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in a correctional environment.

Primary Medical Duties:

Assist the nurse with daily medical operations within the detention facility Prepare, organize, and assist with the dispensing of prescribed medications under nurse direction Conduct basic inmate health monitoring as directed by medical staff, including obtaing vitals. Document medical encounters, observations, and medication administration accurately and timely utilizing facility billing form. Maintain confidentiality of all medical records in compliance with applicable laws and policies Assist in monitoring inmates for medical concerns and reporting changes in condition to nursing staff Support medical inventory control and supply management as needed

Detention Officer Duties:

Maintain safety, security, and order within the detention facility Supervise inmate movement within housing units, medical areas, and other facility locations Escort inmates to and from medical appointments, court appearances, and other designated areas Assist in detaining, controlling, and restraining inmates when necessary and in accordance with policy and training Conduct routine security checks and observe inmate behavior for safety and compliance Respond to incidents, emergencies, and disturbances as directed by supervisors Enforce facility rules, regulations, and procedures consistently and fairly Assist with intake, booking, and release procedures assigned

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required Prior experience in healthcare, corrections, law enforcement, or a related field preferred Ability to maintain composure in high-stress and potentially volatile situations Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to strict protocols Must successfully complete required training and background screening Physical ability to perform detention officer duties, including standing, walking, restraining individuals when necessary, and responding to emergencies

Work Environment:

This position operates in a secure Detention facility. Duties include both clinical support tasks and custody/security responsibilities.
