Competitive and based on experience Our growing psychiatric practice is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and detail-oriented Psychiatric Medical Biller with strong behavioral health billing knowledge. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience with psychiatric and mental health claims, insurance verification, denials management, and revenue cycle management.

This position requires proficiency with:

Availity ClaimMD Tebra (formerly Kareo) Commercial insurance claims processing Behavioral health authorization and billing workflows We are looking for someone proactive, dependable, professional, and capable of independently managing the psychiatric billing process from claim submission through payment reconciliation. Required Qualifications & Certifications Preferred candidates should possess one or more of the following certifications/training backgrounds: Certified Professional Biller ( CPB ) - AAPC preferred Certified Coding Specialist ( CCS ) preferred Certified Professional Coder ( CPC ) preferred Behavioral Health Billing Certification preferred ICD-10-CM and CPT coding training HIPAA compliance training Knowledge of NJ behavioral health insurance regulations strongly preferred Experience billing for psychiatric NP, MD, PA, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, and/or psychologists preferred Required Experience Minimum 2-5 years of psychiatric or behavioral health billing experience Strong understanding of psychiatric CPT codes, diagnostic coding, modifiers, and telehealth billing Experience working with commercial insurance, out-of-network claims, and prior authorizations Familiarity with credentialing and payer enrollment processes preferred Experience managing high-volume claims and aging AR Responsibilities The Psychiatric Medical Biller will be responsible for: Submitting and tracking electronic insurance claims Managing denied, rejected, and unpaid claims Posting insurance and patient payments accurately Verifying insurance benefits and eligibility Obtaining and tracking prior authorizations when needed Following up on outstanding accounts receivable Reviewing EOBs and ERAs for accuracy Managing claim corrections and appeals Maintaining accurate patient billing records Reconciling billing discrepancies Monitoring claim status through Availity, ClaimMD, and payer portals Communicating professionally with insurance companies and patients regarding billing issues Ensuring compliance with HIPAA and payer regulations Assisting with credentialing and provider enrollment as needed Generating monthly billing and collections reports Collaborating with providers and office staff to optimize revenue cycle management Understanding psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy add-on codes, and telehealth workflows Staying current on payer policy changes and behavioral health billing regulations Ideal Candidate Traits Highly detail-oriented Self-motivated and organized Strong problem-solving skills Excellent communication abilities Able to work independently with minimal supervision Professional, discreet, and reliable Comfortable in a fast-paced psychiatric practice environment Preferred Knowledge Experience billing for services such as: Psychiatric evaluations Medication management Psychotherapy Telepsychiatry Intensive outpatient services ADHD testing/evaluations Out-of-network reimbursement Workers' compensation and first responder behavioral health claims is a plus Please submit your resume along with a brief summary of your psychiatric billing experience and the EMR/billing platforms you have used.
