Medical Billing Specialist

Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical billing processes, coding systems, and insurance claim procedures. As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately processing claims, managing medical records, and ensuring timely reimbursement while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the efficiency and financial health of our medical practice. Duties Review and verify patient medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness for billing purposes. Prepare and submit insurance claims using appropriate coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes. Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to document billing information efficiently. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients. Ensure compliance with DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications and other billing regulations. Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments, and collections for audit purposes. Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing discrepancies and improve revenue cycle processes. Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure ongoing compliance. Requirements Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or healthcare administration within a medical office setting. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and billing procedures. Familiarity with DRG classifications, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems. Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and billing purposes. Ability to perform accurate medical coding to facilitate proper reimbursement from insurance providers. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in handling sensitive patient information. Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare staff. Prior experience in medical collections is advantageous but not mandatory; training will be provided if necessary.
