Full Time Schedule:
30-36 hours per week, includes weekends, holidays, and possibly midnights Summary/Objective Provides clinical care through the performance of laboratory based diagnostic tests and services. Facilitates analysis of fluids and results generated by procedures. Responsible for performing procedures in chemistry, hematology, blood bank, urinalysis, serology, and microbiology in a correct and complete manner. Responsible for performing phlebotomy procedures, collection of specimens and urine drug screens as requested. Works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director and Laboratory Technical Coordinator. Ages served range from newborn to geriatric. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Performs, records, and evaluates daily quality control and instrument function and maintenance Performs procedures in chemistry, hematology, blood bank, urinalysis, serology, and microbiology correctly and completely. Recognizes and reports normal and abnormal patient values to physicians and RN s. Assists with the implementation of new testing procedures. Assists in maintaining the area to meet accrediting agency standards. Performs phlebotomies routinely and collects specimens as requested. Demonstrates competence with the hospital and laboratory computer systems. Communicates with physicians, nurses, and caregivers concerning testing results. Rotates in all services of the Laboratory as needed. Demonstrates proper techniques in order to minimize duplication of testing and maintaining instruments to prevent costly repairs and downtime. Demonstrates proper use, care and maintenance of laboratory equipment, tools, materials and supplies for the appropriate work areas. Ensures that procedural performance and behavior does not result in physical or psychological discomfort to the patient or others associated with patients. Obtains prompt, accurate test results to aid the health care provider with treatment of the patients. Performs Laboratory Assistant duties as needed. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Iroquois Memorial Hospital. Phlebotomy techniques Instrument maintenance, calibration and quality control Knowledge of laboratory and hospital computer systems computer Ethical Practice. Required Education and Experience Must be a graduate of an approved, accredited medical technology program; or the equivalent as determined by the Department of Health and Human Services; a Bachelor s degree in Chemistry, Biological Science or Medical Technology. Registration as a Medical Technologist or equivalent is preferred. The hospital facility is comprised of clinical and diagnostic services which are dedicated to providing high quality health care services to the community. These services include but are not limited to an Emergency Room, full service OR suites, an inpatient care unit, therapy services, advanced medical imaging, Home Health, and Hospice Care. The hospital operates rural health clinics in Watseka, IL, Gilman, IL, Milford, IL, and Kentland, IN.
