Medical Records Clerk - Health Information Management (HIM)

Full-Time | Non-Exempt Help Protect Patient Information and Support Quality Care At Uvalde Memorial Hospital, every patient interaction matters—including the secure and accurate handling of their medical records. As a Medical Records Clerk, you'll play an important role in supporting patient care behind the scenes by ensuring medical information is processed accurately, confidentially, and efficiently. This position is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting both patients and healthcare teams through excellent service and professionalism.In This Role, You Will:
Coordinate and process requests for medical records from patients, providers, insurance companies, and legal representatives. Verify authorizations and ensure compliance with HIPAA, hospital policies, and state and federal regulations. Complete scanning, faxing, indexing, and document management within the electronic medical record system. Assist with maintaining accurate and organized patient records while ensuring confidentiality at all times. Notify requesters when records are ready or if additional information is needed. Answer and route incoming calls for the HIM department in a professional and helpful manner. Collaborate with departments across the hospital to support efficient operations and continuity of care. Support the HIM team with additional departmental duties and projects as needed.What We're Looking For:
A dependable and detail-oriented professional with a High School Diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a healthcare, medical records, or office setting preferred. Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
