Job description Job Description The Center for the Functional Restoration of the Spine (CFRS) is proud to be a trusted destination for comprehensive spine care in Shrewsbury, Edison, and Toms River, NJ. Our physicians specialize in diagnosing and treating a wide range of spine conditions, helping patients relieve pain, restore function, and improve their quality of life. We are currently seeking a Medical Scribe to support Dr. Marc S. Menkowitz, a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Menkowitz is known for his patient-first philosophy and individualized approach to care, taking the time to fully understand each patient's condition and develop thoughtful, personalized treatment plans. This is a unique opportunity to work side-by-side with a highly experienced spine specialist and gain real, hands-on exposure to patient care, clinical decision-making, and advanced orthopedic procedures in a fast-paced specialty practice. In this role, you'll be present during patient visits, documenting clinical encounters in real time and helping ensure accurate, complete medical records. You'll gain valuable insight into how physicians evaluate spine conditions, interpret imaging, and develop treatment plans — making this an ideal role for someone pursuing a future in healthcare. We're looking for someone who is curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a high-performing clinical environment. We are asking for at minimum a 12 month commitment in this role. Clinical support & real-time documentation Accompany Dr. Menkowitz during patient visits and document encounters in real time in the EMR Capture patient history, exam findings, and treatment plans accurately Document physician interpretation of imaging including X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans Support clinical workflow Prepare charts ahead of clinic by reviewing prior notes, imaging, and medical history Enter orders, referrals, and follow-up instructions as directed Help ensure documentation is complete and ready for physician review Stay organized and detail-focused Track follow-ups such as imaging results and referrals Maintain accurate, timely documentation to support patient care and billing Uphold strict patient confidentiality and professionalism Strong attention to detail and ability to listen and document quickly Ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment Professional, reliable, and able to maintain confidentiality High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree (or in progress) preferred Strong interest in healthcare, medicine, or clinical experience (great for pre-med, PA, nursing paths) Prior scribe or medical office experience is a plus, but not required Direct exposure to a fellowship-trained spine surgeon and complex cases Learn how spine conditions are diagnosed and treated (both surgical and non-surgical) Hands-on clinical experience that strengthens future healthcare applications Opportunity to build strong medical terminology and documentation skills Hourly rate: $18 to $20 per hour Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, vacation, and 401k Requirements Education & Experience High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree (or in progress) preferred Prior medical scribe, clinical, or medical office experience preferred, but not required Strong interest in healthcare, medicine, or clinical experience (ideal for pre-med, PA, or nursing pathways) Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of medical terminology, particularly related to orthopedic and spine conditions preferred Excellent listening, typing, and real-time documentation skills with strong attention to detail Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, patient-focused clinical environment Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with physicians and clinical staff Professional, reliable, and able to maintain strict patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance) Additional Requirements Ability to accompany physician during patient visits and remain standing for extended periods We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.
