At a 20-bed community hospital, the Med Surg RN cares for a diverse mix of adult and pediatric patients across pre- and post-operative and general medical conditions. Low patient-to-nurse ratios and a collaborative atmosphere enable thorough assessments, timely interventions, and personalized education. Equipment includes modern bedside monitoring, barcode medication administration, and ultrasound-guided IV tools to support safe, efficient practice. Close proximity to surgery, imaging, and the emergency department streamlines handoffs and accelerates plan-of-care execution. Cross-training opportunities allow the Medical-Surgical Nurse to broaden competencies while contributing to a flexible, high-performing unit.
Reporting within a supportive structure, the Med Surg RN receives guidance from Providers, the Acute Care Director, the Charge Nurse, and the CNO, and collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary team. Daily practice spans the full nursing processāassessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluationāto achieve safe, effective outcomes for surgical, medical, and pediatric populations. Requirements include graduation from an RN program and current Montana RN licensure, with BLS, ACLS, and PALS to be completed within six months of hire.
