We are looking for aMetallurgical Process & Product Development Engineer to join our Advanced Engineering team inNewark Ohio!
The Metallurgical Process & Product Development Engineer will work on and lead identified priority projects while also collaborating with our manufacturing sites on process and product improvement initiatives, driving sustained changes via data driven analysis. With the technical resources in the Kaiser Aluminum extrusion facilities, this individual will be expected to support and strongly collaborate with sites to foster the technical competencies and experiences, while leveraging best practices across the enterprise.
What you will work on:
Develop, define, and complete on a timely basis the assigned Research & Development projects.
Work in cross-functional teams, interacting with the Advanced Engineering team and Kaiser plant based resources, collaborating on and completing prioritized tasks and initiatives.
Collaborating with plants, supporting process analysis and improvement initiatives.
Utilize data to drive fact-based, sustainable improvements in process and product control throughout Kaiser's facilities.
Enhance understanding of processing information for casting, rolling, extrusion, drawing, thermal processing and destructive & non-destructive testing of aluminum alloys.
Design experiments using research and production processing equipment. Analyze experimental results and make recommendations based on analysis.
Researching new and existing aluminum materials and/or processes for potential improvements to Kaiser's products and processes.
Support the analysis of product issues/changes through various metallographic techniques.
Effectively communicates and documents project activity and status informally and formally, including presentations to stakeholders.
Write technical reports summarizing work as well as presentations to peers on progress of projects.
Evaluating equipment designs and capabilities. Initiate and implement upgrades to equipment as required. Prepare specifications for equipment and testing.
Lead and/or contribute to Housekeeping and 5S initiatives through active involvement within the Advanced Engineering team.
Support safety initiatives through active involvement in the safety process.
What you will bring to the position:
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering (Materials Science) is strongly preferred, with a minimum requirement of a BS in a relevant engineering field. Work experience will be considered with a non-Metallurgical degree.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in aluminum processing.
Experience in utilizing statistical methodologies (data acquisition, root cause analysis, process control and capability).Experience managing technical projects/initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with personnel at multiple manufacturing facilities.
Effectively manage and execute projects at remote locations.
Proven ability to work in a low supervision environment while successfully meeting goals.
Self-sufficient in data acquisition, analysis, and report writing.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
Proven ability to work in teams.
Demonstrate a curiosity to learn in all areas including meaningful interactions with plant personnel and available company resources.
Be energetic, disciplined and focused on a team building operational organization.
Be well organized and data driven.
Have well developed interpersonal and business partnering skills, with the ability to quickly adapt to, be accepted by, and interrelate with the organization at all levels.
Be willing to work flexible hours.
Work environment in the plant:
Approximately 60% of the job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. 40% of the job function is required in a plant environment, including travel to other Kaiser facilities. There is exposure to operating machinery and a manufacturing environment.
