Job Description:
The North Middlesex School District is seeking an Assistant Middle School Field Hockey Coach to support the Head Coach in developing and coaching the middle school field hockey program for students in grades 5-8. This role involves assisting with practices, helping individual athletes improve their skills, and fostering an inclusive and positive team environment. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, patient, and committed to working with middle school athletes, helping them develop not only their field hockey abilities but also their personal growth and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with
Practice & Skill Development:
Help lead practices focused on improving field hockey fundamentals, including passing, shooting, positioning, and defensive techniques. Work with the Head Coach to provide individualized coaching and feedback to athletes. Assist in managing drills and ensuring proper technique during practices.
Team Support & Engagement:
Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive team environment where athletes of all skill levels feel welcome. Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and communication both on and off the field. Help build team spirit and cohesion through fun and engaging activities.
Meets & Competitions:
Assist with organizing and preparing athletes for matches and tournaments, including transportation and event logistics. Support the Head Coach in managing the team during competitions, ensuring safety and good sportsmanship.
Safety & Supervision:
Assist with monitoring athletes' safety during practices and competitions. Ensure athletes follow proper warm-up, cool-down, and injury prevention protocols. Supervise students during team events and practices, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
Communication & Collaboration:
Maintain open communication with athletes, parents, and school staff about team progress, schedules, and any relevant concerns. Collaborate with the Head Coach to ensure consistency and effective management of the team. Help ensure that all team members are supported and encouraged in their athletic and personal development.
Compliance:
Follow all North Middlesex School District policies, as well as MIAA and NFHS guidelines. Maintain required coaching certifications: Concussion Training (NFHS or CDC-approved) First Aid & CPR Certification

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Enthusiasm for coaching and supporting middle school-aged student-athletes. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to assist in creating a supportive and positive team atmosphere. Must meet all district coaching requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in coaching field hockey or another sport. Experience working with middle school students. Knowledge of basic field hockey skills and strategies.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Coach Stipend Schedule.
