Job Description:
The North Middlesex School District is seeking a Head Middle School Field Hockey Coach to lead and develop the field hockey program for students in grades 5-8. The successful candidate will work with young athletes, teaching them the fundamentals of the game, fostering teamwork, and promoting personal growth in a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment. This position requires an individual who is passionate about developing players at the foundational level, with an emphasis on skill development, sportsmanship, and character building.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Instruction:
Plan and lead practices that focus on field hockey skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Teach athletes the fundamentals of the game, including stick handling, passing, shooting, positioning, and defensive techniques. Organize and oversee team participation in matches and tournaments, ensuring students are properly prepared.
Student Development & Engagement:
Foster a positive, inclusive environment where athletes of all skill levels are encouraged to learn and grow. Provide individual feedback to athletes to support their development on and off the field. Promote the importance of teamwork, leadership, and communication on the field.
Safety & Supervision:
Ensure proper warm-up and cool-down routines are followed to minimize injury risks. Supervise athletes during practices, matches, and events to ensure safety and appropriate behavior. Adhere to all safety protocols, including concussion management and injury prevention.
Team Culture & Communication:
Promote good sportsmanship, respect for teammates, and ethical behavior. Maintain communication with athletes, parents, and school staff regarding player progress, team activities, and events. Foster strong relationships with parents and encourage their involvement in supporting the team.
Administrative Duties & Compliance:
Assist with organizing logistics for practices, matches, and transportation. Ensure compliance with all North Middlesex School District policies and MIAA guidelines. Maintain required coaching certifications: Concussion Training (NFHS or CDC-approved) First Aid & CPR Certification

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Enthusiasm for coaching middle school student-athletes. Strong understanding of field hockey rules, skills, and strategy. Ability to communicate effectively with young athletes, parents, and school staff. Ability to foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive team environment. Must meet all district coaching requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience coaching field hockey at the middle school level or higher. Experience working with student-athletes in grades 5-8. Knowledge of injury prevention and safe field hockey practices.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Coach Stipend Schedule.
