Position Summary:
The Math Specialist for grades 6-8 will focus on providing intensive mathematics support to students requiring extra assistance. This role exclusively involves delivering Tier III math interventions directly to students. Responsibilities include teaching daily interventions, monitoring student progress, analyzing data to inform instruction, collaborating with teachers and stakeholders, and participating in support system meetings. The Mathematics Specialist is a master teacher. The instructional focus of the Specialist is to support and implement a student-centered intervention program that effectively works to close student gaps in mathematics. The role is both teacher and student-facing, as the role requires the person to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and have strong communication skills. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Math Specialists should be prepared to work with students in grades 6-8 who require additional support to meet grade-level proficiency in mathematics. This role will exclusively focus on math interventions and you will be working with students directly. Teach daily Tier III math interventions, providing instruction based on students' needs using an identified mathematics intervention curriculum Monitor student quantitative and qualitative outcomes, document progress, and enter data into a centralized data management system Analyze data and use it to set individual goals, create intervention groups and instructional plans, and adjust instruction Tech-proficient instructional leader experienced in and/or comfortable learning to leverage VR curriculum tools, Tier 1 curriculum resources, and assessment data to enhance student learning. Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, service providers, school leaders, students, and families to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of each learner, including pushing into classrooms for math support Participate in Multi Tiered Support System and Individual Mathematics Support Plan meetings for students on your caseload Other duties, as assigned The intent of this job description is to provide a representation description of the types of duties and responsibilities required for this position. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications noted below are required to enable the employee to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this position. Missouri Teacher Certification; Middle School or High School Mathematics preferred
Recommended:
Math Specialist Certification 3-5 years of full-time lead teaching experience that involves math instruction Demonstrated understanding of what proficiency and rigor in the Missouri Learning Standards/Common Core State Standards at each grade-level looks like, how these standards are vertically aligned, and how these standards are assessed Committed to our mathematics vision and mission within UCity schools Demonstrated track record of success that includes leading students to at least 1.5 years of math growth in a single school year, high levels of mastery on state tests or standards-based assessments such as Galileo, and/or helped 90% or more of students on your special education caseload master math IEP goals Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel and parents, and an ability to work cooperatively with others Ability to set goals with students and motivate students to reach their goals A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 30 feet Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects This position requires standing, walking, sitting, bending and reaching for extended periods of time Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate mechanical equipment, and move about the work area This position will subject the employee to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, high noise levels, and various work related hazards
