Position:
The Social Studies Teacher is responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, historical inquiry, civic responsibility, and global awareness. This position involves planning and delivering standards-based instruction that meets the diverse academic and developmental needs of students while fostering analytical reasoning, effective communication, and active participation in the learning process. The Social Studies Teacher uses data-driven instructional practices, differentiated teaching strategies, and a variety of instructional resources to support student achievement and growth. Additionally, the teacher establishes positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues; maintains accurate records; collaborates as part of a professional learning community; and contributes to the overall mission and educational goals of the school through professionalism, leadership, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
All applicants must possess or be eligible to possess a Delaware teaching certification as a Middle Level Social Studies Teacher as defined by 14 Del.

C. § 1534 or Secondary Social Studies Teacher as defined by 14 Del.

C. §1544.
Performance Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver engaging social studies instruction aligned with state standards, district curriculum, and instructional best practices. Foster critical thinking, civic responsibility, historical analysis, and global awareness through meaningful classroom discussions and activities. Integrate current events, primary sources, technology, and interdisciplinary connections into daily instruction. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of all learners. Create lesson plans that promote inquiry, collaboration, problem solving, and student engagement. Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student achievement and guide instructional decision-making. Analyze student data to identify learning gaps, adjust instruction, and support academic growth. Establish a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment that supports respectful dialogue and diverse perspectives. Encourage active student participation through debates, simulations, research projects, presentations, and cooperative learning activities. Maintain classroom procedures and behavior expectations that promote a safe and productive learning environment. Incorporate instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student learning and engagement. Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, colleagues, administrators, and community stakeholders. Collaborate with special education teachers, counselors, interventionists, and other staff to support student success. Participate in curriculum development, vertical alignment, and departmental planning activities. Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, projects, assessments, and classroom performance. Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grades, assessments, behavior, and student progress. Support students in developing research, writing, communication, and analytical skills necessary for college, career, and civic readiness. Promote academic integrity, digital citizenship, and responsible use of instructional materials and technology. Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned. Participate in school improvement initiatives, committees, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities. Assist with school-sponsored events, extracurricular activities, and co-curricular programs when assigned. Remain knowledgeable of current educational trends, instructional strategies, and developments in social studies education. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, confidentiality, and adherence to district policies and procedures at all times. Build positive relationships with students that encourage engagement, motivation, accountability, and academic achievement. Support the district's mission, vision, and goals through effective instruction, collaboration, and student-centered practices. Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
