Blasters Apprentice

Explosive Contractors Inc. is looking for our next blaster. You will be a crew member assisting a licensed blaster in day-to-day operations. You will watch and learn by doing. The blaster will teach you, and when he feels you are ready, you will study and take the test to become a licensed blaster. You will serve as the blaster's assistant for at least 1 ½ years before being considered for the blaster's test and license. You must possess spatial perception and comprehension, reasoning skills, unaided math skills, and the ability to understand patterns. This is a dangerous job, and as a blaster, you will be responsible for the crew's, customers', and the community's safety. It is a huge responsibility. While learning, you will pass out explosives, then fill holes with "stemming" to the top using 5-gallon buckets of gravel. You will help the blaster connect the blast holes. You will learn to keep a record of the shot. Applicants must possess high honesty, integrity, and dependability.

IMPORTANT

The job is physically demanding, requiring continuous movement, heavy lifting in an unstable environment, bending, stooping, turning, and working with the hands. We work outdoors in all kinds of weather - heat and cold. The job will require overtime and, while rare, some weekends.
