Mobile Equipment Operators help keep Louisiana's roads and bridges safe by operating equipment to support maintenance and construction work. This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call-outs depending on assignment. Positions are located in Independence, LA, District 62 / Unit 710 and report to the Highway Foreman 2. This position is part of a heavy road maintenance crew that is responsible for using various hand tools, operating heavy equipment such as lowboy tractor and trailer, asphalt paving machine, large roller and milling machine for asphalt and milling operations, installing large cross drain culverts, assisting with erosion repair jobs and various building maintenance projects. Operates lowboy which include a variety of tractor-trailer combinations. Operates the heavy equipment as needed such as asphalt distributor (truck mounted), backhoes, frontend loaders, motor graders, etc. Perform duties as directed, such as shoveling asphalt, digging footings for setting concrete forms, placing traffic control devices, delivering, loading and unloading materials and/or equipment, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools, etc. Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator's manual and manufacturer's recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely. May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities. This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.Position-Specific Details:

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2/HEAVY
Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO 2/Heavy will be $22.52 /hour. Please list all work experience on your application. Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.Licensing Requirements:
