Job Description:

Portledge is seeking to hire two dynamic Middle School Physical Education Teachers who are driven to create a classroom environment where student learning is a non-negotiable goal and passion is evident on a daily basis. This position will contribute in a variety of ways to school life at Portledge School and report to the Middle School Division Head. Responsibilities include teaching Middle School PE across grades 6 - 8, coaching the equivalent of grades 5-8 during all three athletic seasons, serving as a Middle School Advisor, participating collegially in Middle School Division meetings and Health & Wellness Department meetings and initiatives, and taking an active role in the life of the school community.

Responsibilities:

Delivering consistent high-quality instruction, mentoring and teaching to students Participating in collaborative planning and ongoing professional development and a professional learning community Staying current with educational research and pedagogy related to classroom instruction and educational trends Maintaining online Atlas curriculum database for courses taught Coach at least 1 sport for in all three seasons (Fall, Winter, or Spring) during the year Coaching responsibilities should be the equivalent of the time commitment required to coach 5/6 and 7/8 for a given sport in a particular season Acting as a Middle School Advisor Attending a minimum of 4-6 evening/weekend programs that support the community throughout the year They are... Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in PE preferred. NYS Certification in PE preferred. Experience teaching or coaching children in grades 5 - 8 preferred. Strong ability to communicate with multiple constituencies, both in writing and in speech, and comfort working in a collaborative setting. Organization and attention to detail. Ability to work flexible hours Coaching experience in tennis, soccer, cross country, softball, badminton, track and field, lacrosse, basketball, hockey, golf, or baseball preferred.
