Job Description

Head into next school year with a studio that provides comprehensive health benefits(75% of premiums, BCBS), pays for your time between lessons, and protects your income with a strong pro-teacher cancellation policy! Teacher-founded, teacher-run, and local, Piano Power has been a great home for Chicago-area musicians for over 15 years. We are proud to be the most teacher-friendly lessons provider in the Chicago area: We provide health insurance to instructors teaching 4+ days per week during our prime-time hours. 75% premium coverage for comprehensive coverage with Blue Cross/Blue Shield Illinois(Blue Options Silver PPO with HSA •or• Blue Precision Gold HMO). We offer excellent compensation : an introductory hourly rate of $39-43, based on experience and instrumentation. Pay keeps up with inflation, and then some : guaranteed yearly cost-of-living/inflation raises -- as well as yearly performance-based evaluations/raises above inflation. Your driving time in between lessons is compensated at Chicago minimum wage. We focus, first and foremost, on teacher well-being : our core value is that happy teachers make happy students. The quality of your work experience is paramount . We get to know you and then provide you with customized teacher/student matches. Our aggressive screening, strong cancellation policy, and zero-tolerance anti-harassment policy translate to students who are friendly, engaged, and committed to regular lessons. Compensation reviews are annual, and based on clear performance metrics . Hands-on mentorship, training, and lessons are available for professional growth and help when you need it. Our lead teachers are always standing by to help with tricky students, or pedagogical issues. Your schedule is organized and streamlined : scheduling, billing, client communication, and efficient house-to-house routing are handled by our stellar administrative team. We're interested in candidates who fit any of the following descriptions: Younger-kid experts : beginner piano teachers with expertise and experience working with younger kids (ages 5 and 6). Piano & voice experts : especially folks with musical theater experience.
Multi-instrumentalists :
beginner piano teachers who also teach guitar, drums, voice, sax, or flute. Basic piano sight-reading skills required. Advanced piano teachers : pop, jazz, and classical are all welcome.
Candidates should be:
Energetic, relaxed, fun, and great with kids. Able to teach music fundamentals. Able to sight read on piano comfortably at an early-intermediate level (e.g., Faber & Faber Level 3A). Able to arrange a simple pop song -- single-note melody plus chords or bass -- for a beginner musician using your ear & instrument. Capable of helping a student develop a simple compositional idea. Car owners (Car ownership is •required•, since we provide in-home lessons in Chicago and the northern suburbs). Available to teach four days a week during our prime teaching hours (Monday through Thursday 3-9pm, Sundays).Responsible, punctual, and communicative. Interested in teaching lessons that are as much about mentorship & camaraderie as they are about excellent music education. Teachers who currently work with another studio : we'd like to work with you on a transition that gives you ample time to wrap up your current teaching schedule, and minimizes the gap in income that can happen when switching studios. We know how hard it is to say goodbye to your old students, and how difficult it is to be left with an income gap while you build a new schedule. We'll work with you to make this transition as painless as possible.
