DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
DEFINITION To plan, develop, and implemen­t the policies, regulations, guidelines, and proce­dures pertaining to a school site club and special project ad­visement. To serve as a resource con­cerning club and special project activities; and to do other related functions as directed.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position classification requires expertise pertaining to a special project activity. Directly related student activity experience is required to perform specialized service in sponsoring, monitoring and advising students participating. This is a sedentary position classification that performs light work, but does require walking and standing for extended periods. The job also requires the accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and objects, and providing oral information and instructional detail. DUTIES Selects musical and obtains license and orchestration rights Creates the production schedule Assesses and analyzes every aspect of the musical: plot, character, mood, rhythm, style
  • both literary and theatrical Brings together the many complex pieces of a production
  • including script, actors, set, costuming, choreography, lights, sound and music
  • into a unified whole Researches the playwright, the period, and the style Makes arrangements for the auditions Conducts auditions and selects cast members Executes and interprets the artistic components of the show (what the show is really about) Rehearses and prepares the cast Communicates the artistic vision to the designers and all other departments Attends all production meetings and rehearsals Works within a budget Returns rehearsal materials Submits items for payment Returns costumes/set items SKILLS Knowledgeable in all aspects of theatre, including design, lighting, sound, costume, dance, vocal and acting technique Conveys general vision for the show Has read and can communicate a coherent understanding of the musical Excellent communication skills Strong organizational skills Strong management skills Has the ability to work well with young adults Prepared to spend the necessary rehearsal and preparation time Strong intuition Clear artistic vision Willingness to work with many people with a range of experience and abilities Collaborative working style Enthusiasm for the project Please see Extra-Curricular salaries for current stipend amounts.
