Natural Resources Range Technician I (Seasonal)
SALARY:
$20.34 to $22.96, per hour

LOCATION
Land and Range Department, Nespelem, WA Basic Functions:
This is a Non-Exempt position.

Provides technical support in Integrated Weed Management (IWM) by identifying noxious weeds, conducting field surveys, and control measures including herbicide applications, biological control, mechanical treatments, and manual removal. Maintains, repairs, and safely operates vehicles and equipment. Supports fencing projects through material handling, post installation, wire stretching, and related labor. Performs additional duties to support overall natural resource and range objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Training:
Requires a High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED) and a satisfactory work history. Requires a valid driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment . Requires Washington State Department of Agriculture Pesticide/Operator license with an Ag Weed Endorsement (Or the ability to acquire this license within 90 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Prefer previous experience and knowledge of building or repairing fences. Must have knowledge of and be able to provide technical expertise to all Reservation landowners, livestock owners and Agency branches on all Range Program matters. Requires skills to effectively communicate to the general public, other co-workers and crew. Requires ability to do (IWM) spraying for noxious weeds. Requires the ability construct fences and repair fences. Requires ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision. Requires the ability to effectively handle adverse situations, making appropriate decisions, working calmly, and accurately. Requires ability to follow applicable regulations and standards to maintain a safe work environment. Requires ability to use standard laboratory and field equipment (such as herbicide application equipment). Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing. Ability to use all equipment associated with this position (herbicide equipment, fencing tools, GPS, etc.). Must be able to work closely with co-workers.
Physical Abilities:
Must be in good physical condition to be able to work and hike in inclement weather conditions and over variable and rugged terrain. Must be able to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 45 lbs. while hiking in steep terrain. Requires ability to safely operate and maintain project equipment such as 4-wheel drive vehicle, ATV, tractor, chainsaw, and power equipment. Requires ability to safely operate trucks and trailers; backing up, loading, and unloading equipment off the trailers. Able to handle and carry fence materials, sometimes over long distances.
Note:
Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
