Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Energy Services Department consists of five groups: (1) Cogeneration Systems (generates electricity and steam, and the distribution of steam throughout campus and UNC Hospitals); (2) Electric Distribution Systems (distribution of electrical power throughout campus); (3) Chilled Water Systems (producing and distributing chilled water throughout campus); (4) Water, Wastewater and Stormwater (for the use and conservation of water, as well as the proper management of stormwater and runoff); and (5) Administration (providesGIS , SCADA
, coordination of operational information technologies, strategic planning, and management functions). Together these five groups provide safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective steam, electricity, chilled water, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, and potable water utility services to the University's campus in a manner that moves UNC closer to the goals of Three Zeros Environmental Initiative. Position Summary This position supports the on-site warehouse management for the continuous operation of the Energy Services departments. This position supports the purchasing and inventory control of the warehouse items, as well as special orders. This position researches costs, obtains quotes and assist personnel with the procurement of components, spares and equipment. This position maintains detailed inventory records, receives, delivers, stores, issues, provides care of stockroom/warehouse supplies and notifies the Supervisor of errors or problems with processes and procedures. This position requires a strong working knowledge of the components, equipment and systems at the above facilities. Position works with operations to reorder acid and caustic for water treatment. This position uses MAXIMO , a computerized work management system, in particular, the purchasing and inventory modules. This position monitors inventory levels and researches just-in-time delivery as required for outage or emergency work orders. A valid NC driver's license and the ability to obtain forklift training operation certification are required for this position. This position is Adverse Weather, Emergency Duty and Communicable Disease Mandatory. The incumbent must report to work during periods of adverse weather, university emergency or potential public health emergencies. This position also participates in an On-Call Rotation. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency. Management Preferences Knowledge of computerized inventory management system (preferably MAXIMO ), and ability to multi task are preferred. Knowledge of how to handle acid, caustic and welding bottles safely. Ability to compile and organize information from different sources to develop reports and data. MS Office, specifically Excel and Word. Required Licenses/Certifications A valid NC driver's license and the ability to obtain forklift training operation certification are required for this position. Special Physical/Mental Requirements The environmental conditions range from air conditioned and heated control room to dusty, hot, humid and cold conditions. This position will be required to work in all conditions at various lengths of time depending on the need for operational requirements. Part of the equipment is located outdoors and operation and/or maintenance are required year round. Physical effort required for the position includes, but not limited to: climbing ladders/stairs, working in confined spaces, being in contact with hazardous materials and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. independently. This position is Adverse Weather, Emergency Duty, and Communicable Disease Mandatory. The incumbent must report to work during periods of adverse weather, university emergency or potential public health emergencies. This position participates in On-Call Rotation.
