Job Description

The Piney Woods School is seeking an individual with the energy and passion to serve as School Nurse. The successful candidate will appreciate and embrace the school's history, mission and values, but will also be committed to creating new possibilities for the school that will help to guarantee a strong and vibrant future. The Piney Woods School was founded in 1909 on land known as the piney woods located near Mississippi's capital city of Jackson, emphasizing educating the head, heart and hands of every student through academic achievement, community service and occupational skills. The Piney Woods School endures today as the largest historically African American, independent, college preparatory, boarding school in the country.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred (Associate's degree accepted). Demonstrates extensive work experience in the healthcare field. Willingness to become certified in First Aid and CPR Must be available to be on-call as needed and available to be present for extracurricular activities (such as Basketball games, Fall festival, etc. Well-groomed Professional attitude Cheerful/pleasing personality
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to supervise students Demonstrated leadership skills Ability to exercise decision-making skills Be able to work effectively as a team member Have a strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and a commitment to excellence in education Knowledge of social and psychological development of adolescents: Ability to interact positively with students Be able to interface appropriately with staff, students and the community-at-large Knowledge of human growth and development Effective oral and written communication skills Relates well to children Appropriate disciplinary skills Good human relations skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Educating students on hygiene and safety practices Dispensing prescription medications to students per physician instructions Verifying vaccination records Taking students' temperatures when fever is suspected Administering first aid and CPR Treating minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes and bruises Contacting parents when students are ill or injured
Additional Responsibilities:
Enforce students' dress code and report violators Enforce school discipline procedures Serve on various committees Carry out all school rules, policies, and procedures Perform other related functions as requested by your supervisor(s) or other school administrators
