Job Description

Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging provides meals for the 60+ Senior Nutrition Program in Southeast Kansas. We are looking for a delivery driver to deliver meals to participants' homes and congregate sites. The workdays and hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. A vehicle is provided, and a clean driving record is required.
JOB OBJECTIVE
The Nutrition Program Driver is responsible for the safe, timely delivery of meals to program participants receiving home-delivered meals and to designated congregate meal sites in accordance with the Older Americans Act (OAA). This position ensures meals are transported in a manner that maintains food safety, temperature control, and program integrity while providing professional and courteous service. The position also supports participant wellness through routine observation and reporting of concerns in accordance with program policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Deliver meals to home-delivered meal participants and to congregate meal sites according to assigned routes and schedules.
  • Provide backup delivery coverage for other routes or drivers as assigned to ensure continuity of meal service.
  • Modify delivery routes or schedules as directed during inclement weather, emergencies, or operational changes to maintain participant safety and program compliance.
  • Ensure proper handling, transport, and delivery of meals to maintain food safety and required temperature controls.
  • Comply with all counties, departmental and nutrition program policies and procedures.
  • Operate program vehicles safely, obey all traffic laws, and practice defensive driving techniques.
  • Maintain assigned delivery schedules and communicate delays or concerns to the Lead Driver promptly.
Participant Wellness Observation:
  • Conduct brief, non-clinical wellness observations during home-delivered meal interactions, consistent with program training and policy.
  • Observe for and report concerns such as inability to answer the door, significant changes in behavior or appearance, unsafe living conditions, or other indicators that may impact participant well-being.
  • Report wellness concerns promptly and accurately to the Lead Driver or Nutrition Coordinator in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain participant dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
Additional Duties:
  • Collect and submit program income in accordance with established policies and procedures, when applicable.
  • Conduct required vehicle inspections and report safety concerns or mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain adequate vehicle fluid levels and ensure vehicles are clean, safe, and operational.
  • Clean and sanitize vehicles, coolers, and meal transport equipment daily in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Notify the Lead Driver or Nutrition Coordinator of needed repairs or unscheduled maintenance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support nutrition program operations and compliance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions under time constraints, including during adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and adapt to changing routes, schedules, or coverage needs.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with older adults and maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
