CHURCHILL COUNTY MOSQUITO, VECTOR, AND NOXIOUS WEED ABATEMENT DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION FULL-TIME FIELD TECHNICIAN
Make a direct impact in Churchill County by helping protect the community from mosquitoes and noxious weeds. As a Full-Time Field Technician, you'll work outdoors, operate throughout the county, and support important public health and environmental services. Position Summary:
This entry-level position is expected to begin immediately. There is a 90 day probationary period. This role involves driving throughout Churchill County, Nevada, to treat weeds and mosquitoes. Duties may also include gathering mosquito fish, maintaining their holding area at the District facility, redistributing them to larval sources and members of the public as needed, and testing/transporting live chickens and their supplies in support of the District's sentinel chicken program. At times, the job may require entering irrigation ditches and other water sources. No prior experience or specific education is required. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and comfortable with physically active outdoor work. This role requires standing and moving for much of the shift. The ability to drive a manual transmission is helpful. All candidates must be able to lift 75 lbs. throughout a shift and must be available for all designated shifts. There may be a need to work an occasional 2-hour evening or weekend shift, sometimes on short notice. The work environment may include extreme temperatures, dirt/mud, dust, fumes, and high winds.Responsibilities:
- Receive training, feedback, and direction from supervisors in a professional manner.
- The candidate will load and unload herbicide, larvicide, and adulticide materials on and off carts and trucks, using appropriate safety methods and provided PPE.
- Lift and carry up to 75 lbs. safely throughout the workday.
- The candidate will perform duties in various weather conditions. Temperature highs will range between 45 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and the candidate will encounter high winds, dust, rain, and possibly even snow.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment and help keep work areas free of hazards and obstacles.
- Report maintenance issues and incidents with equipment or vehicles to a supervisor or administrative staff member.
- Operate District vehicles safely and respectfully while following all applicable state and local laws.
- Be available for all designated shifts described in the Position Summary.
Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must possess, or be willing and able to obtain within 2 weeks of hire, a valid Nevada driver's license, and must have a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Must be able to perform basic math equations to determine correct herbicide and pesticide ratios.
- Must be able to read and navigate using maps and GPS.
- Must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs.
- Must be physically fit and capable of working in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to interact respectfully with other staff members, management, and members of the public.
- Must place high importance on safety and responsibility.
- Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work each day. (A District vehicle will be provided for all official business)
- Must have access to and ability to text and email throughout the day.
- Must be able to follow directions without supervision and work independently with integrity.
- Must treat all District property with respect and avoid damaging equipment through improper handling.
Additional Qualifications:
- Willing to work all assigned shifts.
- Able to work efficiently as part of a team.
- Able to commute to the District facility at 7400 Reno Hwy.
Job Type:
Full-time.Schedule:
Primarily Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and/or 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional evening or weekend shifts of about 2 hours.Work Location:
In person at the District facility, 7400 Reno Hwy., Fallon, NV, and at field sites throughout Churchill County. Remote work is not available for this position. Employment is contingent on the candidate's ability to meet the physical requirements of the role. This is an at-will position and does not guarantee continued employment. Offers of full-time employment, raises, and bonuses may be given based on merit, attitude, and efficiency. The District will conduct a drug test, background check, and driving record check.
