GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the CEO and in accordance with YMCA policies, the Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for leadership and advancement of the entire Aquatics Department. The leader will oversee the development and implementation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervising, guiding and developing staff to ensure that participant's safety and development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment ensuring program outcomes are consistently achieved.
KNOW HOW
The Aquatic Coordinator must be 21 years old, a high school graduate, certified Lifeguard with current BLS, First Aid, and O2 certificates. Demonstrate proven ability to display initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently. Able to demonstrate written and verbal communication skills; public speaking, capacity to prepare reports, and conduct in-service programs. Will possess competent computer skills in the Windows environment. Willing to learn the YMCA Re-clique CORE operating system and all other computer-based systems associated with YMCA programing and operations.
JOB SEGMENTS
Ensure daily care and safety of members through supervision of staff and volunteers in accordance with the organizations policies and protocol. Assist in implementation of aquatics staff in-service programs by providing direction, leadership, support, and efficiencies for team members through strategic planning, administrative standardization, registration, quality standards, and risk management according to the YMCA Aquatics Standards. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training lifeguards, swim lesson instructors, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Actively utilize the Y Improvement Model to develop strategies to improve overall experience for staff and members. Inspect the premises daily for any hazardous conditions and report any findings to the Executive Director and maintenance staff. Ensures that daily care of members, teens and families is a key priority through supervision of staff and volunteers in accordance with the organization's policies, mission and applicable laws. Act as a model and mentor to the Aquatics staff in the areas of programming, leadership, and staff development by lifeguarding and/or instructing swim lessons as needed. Maintain accurate documentation as required for the Ohio Health Department and YMCA Total Quality Management audits. This includes but is not limited to: Weekly Pool Operations Reports, Lifeguard Certifications, Daily Safety Check List, and Incident/Accident Reports. Requires flexible hours to work evenings and weekends. All other duties as assigned.
EFFECT ON END RESULT
Working as part of an innovative and focused staff team, the Aquatic Coordinator will be accountable for the success of the aquatics department in terms of program enrollment, aquatics safety, innovative and new programming and staff development. This success will be instrumental in the overall ability of the YMCA of Sandusky County to serve the community in accordance with its mission and values.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility are required to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
