Job Description
The OR RN acts as a team member by aiding in the supervision and administration of quality care in the hospital. This position may manage the facility during hours that the administrator and Director of Nursing are not present. This role is accountable for planning, organizing, directing and delivering patient care by utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established policies and procedures among patient/family, medicine, nursing, ancillary and other team personnel. This position acts as a patient advocate, assessing patients for educational, physiological, psychosocial, comfort and safety needs. The OR RN maintains current knowledge and personal education about standards of professional nursing practices, and attends staff meetings and other trainings required by TVHC. This position allows for flexibility in scheduling the needs of a 24/7 facility. All employees perform their work duties in a manner which promotes and supports the Standards of Conduct of Teton Valley Health Care; and demonstrate support of the organizations mission, values, and vision in all actions and interactions with employees, patients, medical staff, guests and visitors. The OR Scrub Tech maintains a proper sterile field during surgical procedures and provides technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses, or anesthesiologists. The OR Scrub Tech hands instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, holds retractors and cut sutures, and performs other tasks as directed by the surgeon during operation. The OR Scrub Tech prepares patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure. This role assists the surgical team in scrubbing and putting on gloves, masks, and surgical clothing and washes and sterilizes equipment, using germicides and sterilizers. This position monitors and continually assesses operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs and prepares dressings or bandages and may apply or assist with their application following surgery. FUNCTIONS

Directs, supervises, and provides professional nursing care. Works closely with the medical staff in the evaluation of patients and for the organization of an appropriate plan of care. Utilizes good assessment skills to make systematic observations to identify deviations from normal and any need for immediate intervention. Provides appropriate nursing care for all patients and consults with /updates charge nurse and/or Provider as necessary. This includes but is not limited to using good assessment skills to make systematic observations to identify deviations from normal and any need for immediate intervention. Safely, timely, and accurately administers all medications and IV solutions, including the medication reconciliation process. Executes legal orders based on knowledge of order's cause and effect after verifying accuracy and no document contraindications. Acts as relief/fill-in Charge Nurse when assigned. This includes assuming and following disaster policies/procedures and maintaining knowledge of the function of TVHC departments to ensure appropriate management of the facility during weekend and evening hours. Charts provided patient care, including response, and patient conditions and uses approved abbreviations and computer programs/paperwork. Reports medication events, unusual occurrences, employee injuries, and patient complaints to the Surgical Services Director, Charge Nurse, or both. Performs routine cleaning and organization functions for the physical setup of the operating room and assists in assembly, wrapping and sterilization of instruments. Assists in recovery of surgical patients using established policy and procedures. Provides Pre and Post-op education, instruction and preparation to patients and patient representatives. Conducts phones calls as required to arrange surgeries, and follow up call to determine post-op status. Completes discharge planning and identifies short and long term patient goals and applies them to care plans. Assists in orientation, education and direction of nursing, Admissions and EMS staff. Uses Hospital Admissions program to accurately admit hospital patients. Assists with any other duties as assigned. Surgical Tech - ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Counts sponges, needles and instruments before and after operation. Is aware of changes in the patient's condition that may require additional supplies or instrumentation. Maintains knowledge of sterile technique and assists in the primary and secondary scrub roles in the operating room. Receives medications from the Circulating RN and safely prepares medications for use on the sterile field, labels all medications correctly on the sterile field. Completes duties of surgical services personnel as outlined in policy and procedures and as delegated to do so by OR Registered Nursing staff. Properly manages surgical specimens according to policy. Adheres to all safety policies and procedures intraoperatively.Including but not limited to:
management of sharps, maintaining sterility, use of power equipment, safe use of electrocautery devices. Operates, assembles, adjusts, and/or monitors sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and diagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation. Assists in assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of instruments for Surgical Services and other departments. Places Equipment and supplies and arranges instruments according to instructions and preference cards. Performs routine cleaning and organization functions for the physical setup of the operating room. Works in coordination with OR Charge Nurse to stock and order all routine supplies for the operating room and central supplies and maintains files and records of surgical procedures. Assists with any other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current State of Idaho Registered Nurse License Current BCLS, ACLS and PALS certifications Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing Basic knowledge in computer use; including email and electronic documentation Intermediate math skills including algebra equivalent logic and reasoning required for dosage calculations Ability to use standard patient care equipment including handling flammable gases Knowledge of use on available nursing resources such as approved textbooks and online sites for patient care Ability to maintain and follow guidelines, set standards of practice in quality patient care, and state, federal, and facility required infection control practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills matching our patients needs and TVHC's mission and valuesPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
